Xerox Engineering Systems Launches ColorgrafX X2

Press release from the issuing company

STAMFORD, CONN. - Feb. 1, 2001 - Xerox Engineering Systems (XES) today set a new standard for wide-format color printing in the graphic arts industry with the introduction of the ColorgrafX X2 piezoelectric inkjet printer, a new 54-inch, six-color inkjet printer for high-volume print-for-pay and in-house graphic arts production environments. Tapping into its roots as a leading technology innovator, XES designed the ColorgrafX X2 with PixelCorrect, a patent-pending image technology that virtually eliminates banding and delivers sellable quality output at the printer's fastest speed, eliminating draft mode as a "wasted" print speed. ColorgrafX X2 prints at both 360 dpi and 720 dpi resolution and offers three different print categories, all of which produce sellable image quality. In its "productivity" mode, the ColorgrafX X2 prints at 431 square-feet/hour; in "quality" mode it prints at 260 square-feet/hour; and in the "high quality" mode it prints at 130 square-feet/hour. This new color inkjet is targeted to digital color printers, graphic arts service bureaus, color photo labs, exhibit builders, quick printers, reprographic houses, and corporate in-house printers. A 36-inch model for the graphic arts industry will be available shortly. "The classic problem in wide-format color printing has been that quality suffers at high speed and banding has been an ever-present nuisance for inkjet printers when operated at their highest speeds," said Michael Robertson, ColorgrafX X2 product marketing manager. "For the customer, that's been money thrown away with each draft print. With our PixelCorrect technology, banding is virtually eliminated, allowing the ColorgrafX X2 to produce sellable prints in its fastest print mode." The ColorgrafX X2 prints in six colors - black, cyan, magenta, and yellow, plus two tonal inks, light cyan and light magenta - that produce smooth blended images and increase the amount of reproducible colors within the standard web offset printing (SWOP) color gamut. The combination of retaining outstanding image quality while still producing at the fastest print speed makes the ColorgrafX X2 the most efficient color solution for high-volume print-for-pay and in-house production environments.
