What Can We Expect in 2014

Andy gives a followup on some of the responses he received to a recent article where he commented on HP’s decision not to exhibit at the IPEX trade show in 2014.

In a recent article I commented on HP’s decision not to exhibit at the IPEX trade show in 2014. I said I felt that the reason for not going was not for the reasons HP gave but instead was because of the changes in the company’s top management not understanding the professional printing and graphic arts markets and also because of financial pressures. I also commented upon the news that Benny Landa was also reviewing his company’s attendance at IPEX. I had a number of responses to my article some of which agreed with my opinion whereas others felt I had got my reasons wrong and that HP was on the correct path.

Among the people who agreed with me was one leading industry analyst who made the following comments to support my view that HP was looking at ways to reduce costs and that this was a reason from withdrawing from IPEX.

He also indicated that he felt it might also be due to drupa organizers Messe Düsseldorf trying to make All in Print China the main graphic arts show for 2014 and HP sees its future in China is more important that in the areas supported by IPEX.
