Scott, tell us about the money you have spent on technology recently?

We have invested over $1,000,000 in our our own ProcureLink on-line e-procurement solution, as well as Heidelberg DI technology. We plan to purchase another Heidelberg DI, as well as a total automated workflow process including order entry, billing and shipping.

Who do you buy your paper from?

Our paper relationships are on a direct-from mill basis, ensuring the most efficient and cost-effective programs.

Having invested so much in the e-area of workflow, what’s your take?

Clearly, in our industry, investments will continue to accelerate in e-procurement initiatives, although we see an overwhelming return to 'stand alone', supplier developed platforms. We have examined dozens of platforms and have built our own solution containing benefits and functionality contained in the best of the best.

How do you advertise your business?

We use traditional direct mail, both electronic and white paper, continue to be important, as well as networking the print buying organizations.

Does e-procurement really offer a solid selling point for stationary buyers?

For our commodity, corporate stationery, buyers should find a supplier who has a proven e-procurement platform, with PDF generation, direct to plate, or more preferred, direct-to-press technology, and one who has their own system, and not at the mercy of the financial stability of a third-party ISP.

Has Regal Press had success with the major trade associations?

For us, we have not had great success with the equitable distribution of benefits among the member base of certain national and international industry associations.
