An Important Update on NGP and CIP4

It’s been almost two months since Graph Expo, and time for a “check up” on the world of JDF and the plans for drupa 04. WhatTheyThink.com spoke to Jim Harvey, CIP4’s Executive Director, and Filip Buyse, NGP Partners’ spokesperson, to sort out a few details and to catch up on the latest developments.

CIP4
At the end of October, CIP4 announced the charter of a new MIS (Management Information System) working group that will focus on all of the MIS related work within CIP4. According to the press release the group’s purpose is “to facilitate the implementation and integration of JDF in MIS-managed environments.” The group will define the technical aspects of these integrations, and the members will then be able to deliver working interfaces to an agreed timeline.

MIS Working Group
There are two purposes for the MIS Working Group, according to Jim Harvey. The group’s long-term goal is to develop a series of interoperability conformance specification (ICS) documents for the interface between workflow, prepress, press, and postpress with MIS systems. As a result, they will be working on as many as five documents.
