We tracked more installations in March than the previous two months combined. This report includes 44 installations at 38 companies. Three of the presses were installed in 2022 and two have been purchased but not yet installed but that still leaves 39 installations which is 11 more than the 28 reported in the January/February roundup. March was biz-zee!

What caught our eye

The first thing we notices was the disproportionate amount of activity in the US. Over 60% of installations were in the old USA with the EU, APAC and UK each having only 9% of the activity. There were also some firsts, seconds and thirds on the list:

• The first Agfa SpeedSet 1060 is on its way to Delta Group in England for sign and display production.
• Art & Negative is one of the first customers for the new Screen TruePress Jet 560HDX announced this year.
• Landa has reported that Neff Packaging and Quantum have each ordered their second S10/S10P press but we have not confirmed installation. ZRP Printing Group in China confirmed the installation of their second Landa S10.
• Abaker Industrial in Saudi Arabia picked up two Xeikon PX3300 UV label presses.
• Knight Abbey has added a Canon ProStream and a second varioPRINT ix3200 to their operation.
• That 2022 installation we noted earlier represented 3 separate installations of the Kyocera TASKalfa Pro 15000c at VariVerge within one year. Stay tuned for more coverage of that story.
• Brio Direct also picked up a 3^rd Kyocera TASKalfa Pro 15000c
• Impronta Digitale of Italy has installed their 3^rd Screen TruePress Label 350 UV SAI-S.

It’s all that label action that helped to push roll-fed presses slightly ahead of sheet-fed in this report: 12 out of the 24 roll presses reported were label presses (2 hybrid label) plus 11 2-up roll and 1 roll-pack press. Sheet fed was right behind with 20 total pressed broken out into 10 B3, 7 B1 and 3 B2 presses.

Who’s doing what with whom?

We had 15 different OEMs on the list in one month. I confess that one of them I was not previously familiar with (will let you guess which one.) We found 9 Canon installations (one from a previous year at Knight Abbey), 7 Screen installations, 5 Landa (2 pending installation), 4 Kyocera (inc. three older installs). Three each for Fujifilm, Domino and Xeikon. Two each for Durst and HP and a whole bunch of onsies including Agfa, Bobst, EFI, HanGlobal, Pulisi and Ricoh.

Most of the activity was driven by direct mail (12) and commercial print (8) or a combination of the two. Also, a lot of activity in labels (11) and packaging (4) with a smattering of sign and display (3). The only dedicated transaction printing installations were from 2022 and we saw a drop in book and publication activity with only three companies reporting a focus on that segment.
