Finally getting caught up on 2024 inkjet installations. Unlike our last report, the US (13) edged out EU (11) but that’s only because post-Brexit the UK (2) gets reported on its own.  We also have one installation in Brazil and a 2022 one from Japan that we wrote about but didn’t include in the installation round up. So, that’s 28 installations at 27 companies, about a third of which were installed prior to January 2024.  (and a bunch more to report for March so stay tuned.)

Spotlight on Bobbeslach

• Dekker Creatieve Media & Druk aka Dekker Druckwerken in Leeuwarden the Netherlands has taken the first Kyocera TASKalfa 55000c in Europe which they call a boppeslach or golden opportunity. Kyocera announced the press in October but I don’t expect it will be installed for another month. Look how excited they are!

• Graphic Village of Ohio signed up for the first Screen Truepress JET 560HDX to support a wide array of graphic arts applications. It’s also not installed yet, but we’re excited for them too.
• Forma Certa Grafica Digital acquired HP’s latest graphic arts press, the HP PageWide Advantage 2200, which joins a T230, T240, and T250 at their of São Paulo, Brazil operation. If you collect them all do you get a prize?

Sheetfed is back, baby!

Not only do we have a lot of sheetfed presses to report (68%) but over 30% of them were B1 format. That’s a whole lot of investment. Overall, we found 19 sheetfed installs, 13 of which were installed since the beginning of the year. There were 11 B3 format, 2 B2 format, and 6 B1 format. Only 32% of installations (9) were rollfed this time and a couple of those were roll-pack or roll-label with the rest 2-up presses focused on graphic arts applications.

In fact, the bulk of the presses are focused on some type of graphic arts application including catalogs, magazines, marketing collateral, or high-coverage direct mail. This report showed over half of the installations as commercial/graphic arts as compared to less than a quarter for the last report. There is also a smattering of packaging focused installations including corrugated packaging, folding carton, flexible packaging and labels. A lot of the trends we talked about in our recent Innovations in Inkjet for Packaging webinar are seen at the companies reported here.

Which OEMs?:

The OEMs with the most announced installations include Canon (9), HP (4), Landa (4), Kyocera (3) and Screen (2). I’m never quite sure about the Landa ones as they tend to get announced multiple times slightly differently for the same company. Please shout out if they fooled me again. All of the other OEMs reported had one installation each, including one for Miyakoshi that goes back to 2022. We’re now up to nearly 900 installations tracked since 2018 with another 1,100 installations prior to 2018. Are you on our list?
