In May we tracked 14 installations at 12 companies. For many, this was not their first inkjet investment but we did see several “first installations of particular presses. For example:

  • Abedik Drukarnia in Poland and For You in South Korea were among the first takers of the new ProStream 3000 from Canon.
  • LabelPrint24.com is credited as the the first first JPress 750S installation with Fujifilm’s new high-capacity option that includes a stack height in-feed to drive higher output
  • Fujifilm placed their first (beta) FP790 flexible packaging press with Maruto Sangyo in Japan. See our May coverage on the new press.

We also saw a number of printing companies adding to their fleets. Some staying with the same OEM and others seeming to want one of everything. BR Printers reported 2 new HP T240 HD purchases for 2 locations, doubling down on their HP press inventory and Sepire has added their 3rd Ricoh Pro VC7000. Mercury Print Production, on the other hand, just added a Kodak Prosper 7000 Turbo to an inkjet fleet that includes Kodak, Konica Minolta and Landa presses covering web, B2 sheet and B1 sheet as well as aqueous and UV inks and both piezo and continuous printheads. I think they have their bases covered.

Let’s break down the rest. Geographically, 5 presses are in the US, 4 in the UK, 3 in APAC and 2 in EU. We found an equal number of continuous and sheetfed installations. The sheetfed break down into 3 B2 format and 2 each for B1 and B3. The previous trend has been for B3 to lead the sheetfed installations.

We saw a lot of application focus on books this time (6) followed by direct mail (5) and general commercial (4). Per usual, most companies are running more than one thing on their inkjet presses. Companies running labels or packaging (2) and signage/display type applications (2) tend to be more focused.

Fujifilm led the OEMs this month with 4 new installations followed by Canon  with 3 and HP with 2. The rest of the OEMS cited EFI, Kodak, Kyocera, Landa and Ricoh were singlets. We’re sure there are many more installations out there that have not been publicized. If you are aware of others that we have not covered, please get in touch. We plan to do a “catch up” report over the summer.

Here’s the May table with helpful links to the company website. You can find more details on individual press models on the Inkjet Device Finder.
