The fourth quarter momentum is growing. In October we covered 17 press installations at 16 companies and in November 19 presses at 17 companies. The bulk of the activity reported is in the US (12 presses) but also saw four in the EU, two in the UK, and one in Thailand.

The sheetfed surge we have been seeing since July continues to grow with sheetfed representing more than 50% of the installations reported. Unique for this month is the first installation in the world of the B2 sheet-fed Ricoh Pro Z75 at long-time Ricoh beta site, Heeter in Pennsylvania, US. We also reported on a Landa sale announced in October but we have not confirmed the actual installation of this press. The B3 format is was hot this month with seven B3 sheet installations from Canon and one from Kyocera. The interesting thing about the Canon reports is that two of the presses were i300 models versus the newer ix 3200. This suggests that the “pre-owned” inkjet market is alive and thriving.

On the web/continuous feed front, it was interesting to note that out of the nine continuous presses, four were label presses including Screen, Mark Andy and Bobst equipment. All were aqueous except for the duo of Screen Truepress Jet L350UV label presses installed at Label Solutions in Marshfield Missouri.

In other applications, we continue to see lots of cross over with eight companies offering a combination of commercial, direct mail, transaction printing, books and/or packaging while the remainder focused on a single application type such as labels, books, commercial printing, direct mail or display graphics.

OEMs by the numbers this month: nine Canon presses, four Screen presses, two Ricoh presses, one each of Bobst, Kyocera, Landa (not installed yet), Mark Andy and a partridge in a pear tree.
