I think it was too hot in Europe in August for inkjet users or their OEMs to tell us what was happening. It’s also prime vacation time in a log of locations. All of our new inkjet news last month came out of North America with six installations in the US and one in Canada. Whatever we missed while our European friends (including Ralf Schlözer) were on vacation, we will add to our next report.

Like July, sheet fed continues to be the main story in August representing five out of the seven installations reporting. We heard about three B3 presses – all Canon iX3200 plus a B2 from Konica Minolta and a B1 from Landa (which was the first in Canada.) The two web-fed installations were both “first movers” with the new HP PageWide Advantage 2200 announced last week. We also covered the release of the Pro VC 70000e in August, but RICOH did not share details of any current installations.

Unlike previous months, we don’t have activity in labels and packaging to report. I know that there are new press announcements coming up soon, and I expect that there will be lots of customer and technology announcements arount Label Expo Amercas this week. For August we have a lot of activity in the Direct Mail and Publishing sectors with four of the seven installations production direct mail and four producing publications such as books, yearbooks, magazines or catalogs. We are only reporting on seven installations this month, but three of them were from Canon (all iX 3200 as noted earlier) and two were from HP along with one each from Landa and Konica Minolta. The KM install was the sole UV curable press and included finishing from the MGI JETvarnish 3D system. It’s also worth noting that O’Neil Digital Solutions now has over a dozen HP PageWide presses and they still have the first one they ever bought (over 10 years ago) in production.
