More presses to report this month than in January, including some large installations. Overall, 24 presses at 12 sites including five in the US, two in Germany and one each in Brazil, France, Netherlands, Sweden and UK.

All of the presses were continuous except for one each of B1, B2 and B3 sheet fed. The 2-up roll was the most common format representing 15 of the 24 presses. We also saw a couple of wide roll along with roll pack and label presses. Of the sites, as usual there was overlap in the segments served with eight offering direct mail, four offering books and publishing (including some magazines), three commercial print, three label and packaging (including one corrugated site) and one in-plant operation. There were a couple of notable sites, particularly Communisis in Leeds and Liverpool UK who are upgrading their fleet with HP. We’re showing seven presses going into two sites including some upgrades. The new fleet of HP PageWide T240HD presses include Hunkeler inline paper handling and finishing equipment. Communisis was able to upgrade an existing T400 to the T480 HD specification, and their new T250HD includes MICR capabilities which is relatively unusual for this model.

Abbot Label doubled down with two presses from Domino and MSP was able to replace two existing Screen presses (Truepress Jet520S and Jet520ZZ) with a jazzy new Screen Truepress Jet520HD AD with the latest inks and dryers.

We are late in reporting the multi-press deal with the US Government Publishing Office who purchased five Canon Colorstream 6900 presses and a VarioPrint i200, installed in 2020. Not positive if this replaced previous presses purchased in 2018.

EFI reported its first Nozomi installation in Brazil at Mazurky Embalagens in Sao Paulo. The press uses CMYK as well as orange, violet, and the all-important white.

This month HP led the OEM pack with nine press installations, followed by Canon who also had nine – but 6 were late reports from 2020 leaving 3 newer installs. Domino and Screen both had two presses included in this report and EFI and Komori each had one.

Generally speaking, we are seeing lots of activity with the graphic arts presses from Canon, HP and Screen as well as activity in inkjet for labels. Often we don’t get to report installations immediately has they happen (or in some cases we report the deal before the install) so we try to go back and “true up” periodically with reports based on install dates.
