We are reporting on 12 installations in January, up from 9 sites in December. (The majority (9) were in the US, with two in France and one in England. An interesting installation covered this month was the Canon VarioPrint iX3200 installed at Ingenidoc in France. The company replaced their VarioPrint 1300 and notes that the target market is “on-demand desktop publishing” which seems to be automated e-printing of typical “copy shop” work. Of course this type of work is not new, but it is unusual to see that description attached to an inkjet installation and suggests a high degree of workflow automation. Rock on Ingenidoc!

Other uses of installed inkjet include some segment crossovers with direct mail and commercial with five noting direct mail and four commercial. Of the remaining presses, one each are targeting  books, labels and corrugated packaging.

In terms of format, two-thirds of the presses were sheet-fed including four B2, three B3 and a big old B1 sheet corrugated press. The continuous presses were all 2-up rolls except for one roll-pack format.  Also note that two of the installations were replacements or upgrades, something we expect to see more of with so many older inkjet presses in the field. DGS was able to update their HP T230 to the latest HP T250HD. While Ingenidoc found a buyer for their previous inkjet press.

Canon led the OEM pack with four installations followed closely by Fujifilm with three. We have two listed for Screen and one each for Durst, HP and Konica Minolta. Of course, this is not an exhaustive list  because we typically don’t hear about installations right away and, if we do, we may be under embargo as to when we can speak about them.
