Whether it’s personal investing or your customer base, we often hear about the benefits of having a diversified portfolio. But have you considered the importance of diversity in inkjet printers?
The inkjet world has been growing by leaps and bounds, and there are many different inkjet devices available right now. For some people this is a good thing, while for others it is a source of anxiety. Many people like working with just one company or only having to deal with one type of technology. These are valid thoughts and concerns and can make sense in certain situations.
At IWCO Direct, we have a number of different inkjet technologies that we utilize. We have found that having a diverse group of inkjet technologies has made us better. Here are four reasons why:
- We Learn from Different Approaches
Different inkjet manufactures often have very different approaches in how they implement their technology. Some manufacturers linearize with density; some with spectral data; some use proprietary profiling software while others use more industry standard software. The list goes on. While that can seem confusing, you can also learn new things from the different approaches. Maybe seeing how density is used in a particular situation can help you solve a problem somewhere else. Using different technologies helps you continue to hone your skills and grow, which brings me to my next point…
- The Market is Changing Rapidly
The inkjet market is constantly advancing. If you are siloed in one technology, you can easily fall behind and not be aware of some of the new technology out there that could help you move forward. Stay there long enough, and the inkjet ship can leave you behind.
- Different Technology Can Target Different Things
IWCO Direct has inkjet printers that can print on any substrate. Others can use only inkjet treated papers. Some use primers and bonding agents to print on any stock; some use “magic ink” that allows untreated substrates. Some of our inkjet devices work well for certain types of printing and not as well for others. Having different kinds of inkjet technology can help you to be more versatile.
- Eggs in a Basket
We have all heard the expression “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” Being wholly reliant on one inkjet technology can simplify your workflow, but what happens if there is an interruption in your supply chain? In this current global environment, many businesses are having logistic problems. Having many types of inkjet technology can help mitigate some of those potential issues.
The lesson we have learned at IWCO Direct is that limiting the number and types of inkjet technology can simplify your workflow, but using different types of inkjet technologies can help you to grow as a printer. Keep looking forward to see what’s out there, and don’t be afraid to invest in the future.
