Thick papers can take on more ink volume and heat than their lighter weight brothers. But thicker papers also have more memory, which means if you over-dry a thick paper when it is wrapped around a cylinder, the paper will want to curl when sheeted which can cause jams in your finishing equipment. Thicker papers have higher than usual fiber content which can cause ink to spread unevenly in the X, Y and Z direction into the sheet making a solid color area look lighter or darker in other areas of the sheet. Since ink can spread unevenly, check how the ink is reacting to the paper all the way across the web to avoid over saturating the sheet. Production Tip: Increase “air flow” settings (if you have them) before increasing air temperature. This will dry the surface of the paper without excessively drying out both sides of the sheet.
