Standard Highlights Premieres and Production at PRINT 2017

Press release from the issuing company

Situated front and center on the show floor, Standard’s booth at PRINT 17 is home to an all-inclusive showcase of feeding and finishing solutions. Booth 1231 is one of the largest at the show, and is packed with equipment set up for live demonstrations in die-cutting, perfect binding and trimming, slitting and creasing, folding, saddlestitching, inspection systems, and roll-fed print solutions. An array of exciting new equipment is on display, including the new Horizon BQ-480 Perfect Binder, North American debuts in folding and saddlestitching, and Hunkeler’s anticipated POPP8 finishing line.

As always, Standard will be producing a comprehensive range of finished products throughout the show, highlighting short-run capabilities, format flexibility, complete workflows, and more. Across the booth, Standard will be running various pre-printed cut-sheet and roll-fed applications developed in close cooperation with leading press suppliers Canon, Fujifilm, HP, Kodak, Komori, Konica Minolta, Ricoh, Ryobi, Screen, and Xerox. In addition, Standard will offer a rotating schedule of informative presentations designed to help customers “Change the Focus” and key in on finishing to improve efficiency and profitability.  The presentations will highlight the Hunkeler POPP8 Roll-to-Stack and Roll-to-Fold lines, and the Horizon Smart Binding System (with the new BQ-480 Perfect Binder and AFV-566/TV-564 Folder), StitchLiner Mark III SaddleStitcher, and FoldLiner SaddleStitching system.

“This year is particularly exciting for us, with so much new equipment that pushes the envelope in the finishing space,” says David Reny, Executive Vice President at Standard. “But our goal remains consistent: we want to demonstrate flexibility, efficiency, and smarter workflow. The Standard booth will have a full lineup of Horizon and Hunkeler feeding and finishing solutions, from complete end-to-end setups to standalone systems, all available for live demonstrations. Show goers will find the total experience in our booth.”

Horizon Systems Reach New Heights of Automation and Efficiency

The new Standard Horizon BQ-480 is the latest introduction in Horizon’s acclaimed line of perfect binders, setting new standards in automation and efficient, high quality production. The BQ-480 paces its class in several key areas, including set-up and changeover for variable book production, where it reaches a maximum speed of 800 books per hour for book of one production, supporting book thicknesses from 0.04” (1 mm) to 2.56” (65 mm). Designed to meet the requirements of PUR book binding, the BQ-480 includes a gentle elevator delivery system with a mere 5mm drop to deliver books without damage or marking. The BQ-480 will be shown as a standalone system, and also as part of the Smart Binding System, going from roll to finished book with no manual touchpoints.

Also featured are two new saddlestitching solutions making their North American debuts at PRINT 17. The Standard Horizon StitchLiner Mark III features expanded booklet size and increased productivity up to 6,000 booklets per hour. The system can produce a wider range of applications, including landscape-size booklets, 12” by 12” calendars, and pocket booklets as small as 4.5” by 3.5”. The Standard Horizon FoldLiner takes an innovative, hybrid approach, combining saddlestitching and folding to go from large format digital or offset press sheets to saddlestitched booklets in one efficient system. The FoldLiner accommodates press sheets up to 40", and can combine 4-page signatures with 8- or 16-page signatures, also reaching speeds of up to 6,000 booklets per hour.

Elsewhere in the booth, visitors can see the Standard Horizon AFV-566/TV-564 Folder, a highly automated and dynamic machine that achieves new levels of production efficiency in folding. Advanced automation reduces setup time and allows easy operation via color touchscreen, and the uniquely designed buckle plate ensures consistent, accurate folds while also accommodating a wider range of substrates. The system also features automatic scoring navigation and double-sheet detection, improved registration, and easier sheet loading.

Standard will also show a range of individual solutions for creasing, folding, bookletmaking, saddlestitching, perfect binding, and trimming, loaded with features to provide advanced automation, increased flexibility, and maximum productivity. Among these, the versatile SmartSlitter all-in-one sheet processing system can slit, gutter cut, edge trim, cross-cut, perforate, and crease in a single pass. The popular RD-4055 DMC Die Cutter is designed to simultaneously die-cut and crease/score short-run product from both sides of the sheet, and can handle even complex creasing patterns and light packaging applications with ease.

Hunkeler’s Anticipated POPP8 Generation Takes Off in North America

Premiering in North America at the show, Hunkeler's 2017 “MUST SEE ‘EMS” Award winning POPP8 generation builds off of the successes of the POPP6 line, featuring even greater automation, a wider range of formats and paper weights, and increased speeds (600 fpm) and web width (22.5”). POPP8 has been designed with full color inkjet applications in mind, and supports substrates from 27 lb text to 12 point card. In addition, POPP8 supports the smallest finished sheet format on the market (5.5” long x 4” wide), ideal for full bleed postcard applications.

Hunkeler has taken care to consider ease of access, and all POPP8 generation machines will feature an improved, service friendly design, as well as remote troubleshooting access for operators and service technicians. The new POPP8 modules at PRINT 17 will be presented in Roll-to-Stack and Roll-to-Fold configurations and include: the WM8 Web Merger, CS8 Rotary Cutter, SE8 Offset Module, LS8 Stacker, and WI8 CIS-based Web Inspection. POPP8 systems can be configured near-line or inline with print engines.

Another exciting innovation is the all new, extendable Hunkeler Workflow Manager (HWM), a modular platform for workflow management, job setup, production statistics, data interfacing, and service tools. HWM is a big step in the advancement of automation, with fully automated registering, and plug-ins for job edition and production setup for cutting, stacking, and dynamic perforating and punching, eliminating much of the manual setup of the line. Web inspection and item tracking features have also been integrated to ensure smooth and consistent document production.

Standard and Partners Across the Show Floor

In addition to the equipment in booth 1231, Standard is pleased to collaborate with a range of partners across the show. A Standard Hunkeler Roll-to-Roll line will be shown in the Ricoh booth inline with a Pro VC40000 press, and a Roll-to-Stack line will be available in the Screen booth on a Jet520NX. PRINT 17 will also mark the debut of a new Horizon bookletmaking solution for integration inline with the HP Indigo 7xxx-series presses. This North American premiere will be shown in the HP booth at PRINT.
