Metzger names 4 promotions and begins his second cancer battle

 Joe Metzger announced that he will step down as President of Metzgers while he begins his battle with colon cancer. “I’ve been a cancer survivor for 22 years, so I’m ready for this next fight, and we expect to win, again. It’s what we do.”  Joe added: “It felt awfully lonely and scary when I learned the news, but once we let the word out to family, friends, employees, and customers, the prayer chains began from coast to coast. The spirit and prayers have lifted me up, and I’m ready for this fight.”
 
Metzger plans a two month leave from the company and fully expects to return to Metzgers in a reduced capacity to help the leadership team continue to grow, strengthen and improve the company.
 
The following promotions and assignments have been announced.
 
John Luscombe is promoted to Vice President and will serve as Interim-President while Joe is away. As Vice President, John will work closely with Tom Metzger and the leadership and management teams to continue Metzgers culture and success. John will continue serving as Account Manager to his key accounts and business development. John joined Metzgers in 1992 after graduating from the University of Findlay where he played tennis and attained a degree in public relations. John and his wife Lori have three daughters, live in Perrysburg and are active at Grace Church.
 
Todd Beringer has been named Vice President of Sales & Marketing, after serving as account manager for many years. Todd will continue all account manager and sales duties, yet also be responsible for new business development, sales leadership and marketing initiatives for Metzgers. Todd received a degree from the University of Toledo in Sales and Marketing.  He put himself through college by running the copy center at Metzgers as he began his career with the family business when he was 18 years old. Todd and his wife Jill have two sons and are active at St. Joe’s Sylvania and Sylvania Country Club where he’s always ready for a challenge on the links.
 
Eric Leslie has been promoted to Chief Technology Officer after serving as IT Manager for many years. As CTO, Eric will be responsible for discovery, investigation, acquisition and deployment of all things related to technology. Metzgers offers many technological services that help clients reduce their marketing spend while improving internal communications and reducing cycle times between facilities, franchises and locations. Eric works closely with clients to facilitate learning, understanding and deployment as well as the Metzgers IT staff, outside consultants and programmers. Eric began his Metzgers career by completing his senior project from St. John’s Jesuit High School. He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and studied Print Management. Eric has led technology at Metzgers for 12 years, with a few breaks during that time, first as a technology consultant to Owens Corning during the Y2K readiness project in 1999 and later as the first Toledo-area Double Agent with the Geek Squad. Eric is married to Laura and enjoys all things technology. Eric and Laura have a fond place in their hearts for animals and have volunteered with Planned Pethood, an animal rescue organization.
 
Andrea Ohrt, CPA steps up to Chief Financial Officer of Metzgers and all related Metzger companies. Andrea started at Metzgers in 1995 and had a belief of working “5 years and out” to better advance herself. While at Metzgers, she not only advanced herself, but attained her goal, earning a degree and CPA license while working full-time and raising two boys. Andrea has a BA in Accounting from the University of Toledo, an Associates of Accounting from Owens Community College and achieved the CPA license in 2001.  Andrea also developed the financial department at Metzgers with the addition of Roni Hedger as accounts payable & receivable, and has managed the finances as the company has grown from $2 million in sales to $14 million in sales with her at the financial helm. Andrea is engaged to Derek Leck, and with their four sons they enjoy sailing, skiing, any sport their boys are playing, as well as anything that keeps their family active and together.
 
Tom Metzger continues as CEO and has taken on the title of Chairman and CEO. Tom oversees all things production-related as well as facilities. This past year Tom and Joe have been working on the purchase of a 3rd building at 150 Arco Drive which will be used for warehouse & distribution services as well as future growth & incubator opportunities for the Metzgers companies. Tony Metzger, Tom’s son, works in digital finishing and digital bindery he continues to learn various areas of the business.
