Original data from 13,773 logo uploads shows most artwork in promotional products and print needs fixing before production — and that automation now closes the gap in a median of 53 seconds.

AMSTELVEEN, the Netherlands — FastEditor has published the first edition of its annual Artwork Automation Benchmark, an analysis of 13,773 logo uploads processed across live distributor and supplier deployments between 19 November 2025 and 31 May 2026. The data shows that most customer artwork is not ready to print on arrival, and quantifies how quickly automation now corrects it.

In the stable measurement window of March to May 2026 (8,664 uploads), about 85% of uploads needed at least one automated fix before they could go to production. 79% of assessed raster uploads needed upscaling to reach production quality, 61% needed vectorization, and 40% needed background removal. A further 3.5% exceeded the colour limit for the chosen print method. Categories overlap, because one upload can need more than one fix.

The raw material is light. The median upload is around 0.6 MB — small, web-grade files that frequently need upscaling before they hold up in print. Among logos where distinct spot colours were detected, the median uses just two colours, but roughly one in six carry eight or more, which is exactly the kind of artwork that cannot be screen-printed or embroidered without colour reduction.

Despite the volume of corrections, the fix is fast. On the FastEditor platform the median time from upload to a production-ready file is 53 seconds, covering analysis against the supplier's production specifications, vectorization or background removal where needed, placement and proof generation. The automated processing step itself completes in a median of about 20 seconds. In a traditional workflow, a customer is lucky to receive a print proof within 24 hours, and, when no revisions are needed, lucky to be in production within three working days.

The data also points to active self-service rather than passive acceptance of the auto-fixes. Around 27% of uploads involved adding text, and 44% of customers who hit a colour limit resolved it themselves in a median of 18 seconds — the behaviour of people completing a production-ready design, not waiting on a designer or a proofing email.

Adoption is compounding. Monthly logo uploads grew roughly 11 times between November 2025 and May 2026, with completed orders growing at a similar pace — the signature of automation moving from pilot to default workflow.

"The industry has treated artwork preparation as an invisible back-office cost for decades. This data puts a number on it: roughly 85% of uploaded logos need fixing, and almost all of it can now be done automatically in under a minute. Artwork automation is no longer an operational detail — it is a P&L driver," said Rick Molenaar of FastEditor.

METHODOLOGY
All figures are aggregated, anonymized product-analytics events from live FastEditor deployments, measured in Amplitude. Upload-quality rates are reported on the stable March to May 2026 instrumentation window of 8,664 uploads; cumulative volumes span the full window of 19 November 2025 to 31 May 2026. The 85% "at least one fix" figure reflects FastEditor's production-spec standard and is corroborated by the per-fix rates above. Colour counts are reported for logos where the editor detected distinct spot colours.
