Sunset Printing and Brand Management Solutions Acquires Remco Press Book of Business

Press release from the issuing company

Remco clients will benefit from Sunset’s expanded service offerings, which includes the multi-process printing provided by Remco, as well as full-color printing, automated online ordering, mailing, and inventory management.

Wharton, N.J. – Sunset Printing and Brand Management Solutions (https://www.sunsetprinters.com/), a third-generation family-owned company based in Wharton, NJ, has acquired the book of business of North Bergen, NJ-based Remco Press of NJ (https://www.remcopress.com/), a small, family-owned shop located in North Bergen, NJ. Graphic Arts Advisors, LLC (GAA) (https://www.graphicartsadvisors.com/), Mountain Lakes, NJ, a national M&A advisory and consulting firm devoted exclusively to all sectors of the graphic communications industry, represented Remco in the transaction.

“My company is always seeking suitable acquisitions,” noted Rob Wainer, President of Sunset. “When GAA approached me about Remco, I saw immediately that it was a good fit.”

In addition to full-color printing, Sunset offers multi-process printing, an area in which Remco specialized. Services in this niche include foil stamping, raised printing, letterpress, intaglio printing, Indigo digital printing, dye sublimation, die cutting, and foil and color edging. Sunset also provides data and mailing services, collateral and inventory management, all tied together with an online automated ordering system through a proprietary, customer-specific platform, NetEZPrintX, that is integrated into the customer’s software to also automate the payment and accounting of the order.

“Remco customers will benefit from having access to Sunset’s additional services all in one place. This includes full color printing at competitive rates—something Remco was too small an operation to offer,” said Anthony Skalicky, Jr., who had operated Remco with his father, Anthony Skalicky, Sr.

While virtually all companies work to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 virus on their operations, the pandemic hit Remco press in an all-too-personal way. Skalicky, Sr. passed away from the virus this year. The senior Skalicky had operated Remco’s equipment, while his son focused on graphic design, sales, and customer relations.

“Remco had been a successful company since my grandfather founded it in 1962,” said Skalicky Jr. “With my father’s passing, I knew it was time to make a good decision about the company for me and my customers. My father had operated the equipment and now our ability to produce and maintain our high level of quality was compromised. My father’s level of experience and skill would have been extremely difficult to replace. I turned to GAA for advice and with their guidance decided that selling my book of business to a company that could continue to provide great service to my clients was the best move.”

“When Tony approached me, I knew, based on Remco’s specialty in highly customized corporate identity collateral, event materials, and similar specialty products, that there were only a few select companies that would be a good fit for this particular niche,” said Mark Hahn, GAA’s Senior Managing Director. “Through careful review of GAA’s proprietary database and knowledge of the print-centric market, we identified a short list of potential candidates, including Sunset. We quickly negotiated the M&A deal while also planning and executing the orderly wind-down of Remco’s legacy corporate identity.”

“The orderly wind down process is expected to be substantially concluded in the Remco case within 60 days after the M&A transaction closed—a remarkably rapid time frame for this kind of procedure,” said John Hyde, GAA Managing Director of Special Situations.

With the acquisition, Skalicky moves to Sunset, where he will head the sales operation, transitioning Remco customers to Sunset and developing new business.
