Mondi Syktyvkar Acquires Pemco SHM Folio Sheeter and Wrapmatic GRM Wrapper

Press release from the issuing company

The Mondi Group's facility in Syktyvkar, Russian Federation, has announced its expansion into high-end folio sheeting, enabled by a combination of machines from Pemco: Mondi Syktyvkar will pair an SHM 1450 Dual Rotary (DR) sheeter in-line with Russia's first high-speed Wrapmatic GRM folio ream wrapper.

Mondi Syktyvkar is one of the largest producers in the Russian pulp and paper industry, producing office paper, newsprint paper and container board. The expansion will mark the facility's entry into automatic folio ream packaging, allowing the company to provide high-quality packed reams to their end customers.

The SHM 1450 DR can handle a wide range of coated and uncoated paper and other materials, with a 1450 mm working width. Mondi Syktyvkar will produce high quality uncoated offset paper.

"We like the proven contributions made by the SHM's slitting section and the E.C.H. Will synchro cross cutter. Also, the GRM’s modular configuration and its easy handling impressed us," explained Dr. Thomas Rost, Mondi Group's Head of Operation Improvement Uncoated Fine & Kraft Paper, based in Austria.

The dual rotary system of the sheeter improves cut quality and stack accuracy by remaining synchronous with web speed for the full range of cut-off lengths. A high speed auto discharge pallet change system assures full flexibility. The directly connected GRM folio ream wrapper further increases quality and efficiency. Its single palletizer minimizes the number of conveyors needed, thus reducing overall footprint while matching the speed and output of a standard double palletizer.

"We already have a partnership with Pemco and their sister company E.C.H. Will: we are converting office paper on two cut-size lines from them. That excellent teamwork experience is one reason for this choice," said Vitaly Korychev, Head of Business Unit Finishing Line with Mondi Syktyvkar.

In addition to service and output quality, the new machines' efficiency and versatility were key factors in Mondi’s choice.

Delivery of the two machines is scheduled already for February, with full production by June.
