Xerox and EFI Introduce New Software Packages for DocuColor Systems

Press release from the issuing company

FOSTER CITY, Calif. and ROCHESTER, N.Y.--July 12, 2002--Xerox Corporation and Electronics For Imaging today announced the availability of three EFI software solutions for use with Xerox DocuColor Digital Color systems. The software further enhances the workflow and variable data options available to customers of the DocuColor product family. These EFI solutions include Velocity workflow software, which allows users to maximize the combined capacity of their equipment by managing as many as 12 printers as a group, and two Fiery-optimized variable data printing (VDP) software packages, Pageflex Persona and Atlas PrintShop Mail, to bring speed, flexibility and ease-of-use to complex variable data print jobs. Velocity augments print production by balancing large jobs over multiple Xerox DocuColor printers and automatically directing jobs to the most efficient devices. Users can control the entire workflow process from one interface -- from load balancing to imposition to job costing. Velocity's modular approach allows users to add functionality as their business expands, customizing their own specific workflow solution with four key software components: Velocity Balance, Velocity Build, Velocity Scan, and Velocity Estimate. Splitting jobs between Xerox DocuColor and DocuTech black-and-white print engines is expected to be available in the near future. "Velocity offers valuable cost-saving opportunities and fast turn-around times for quick printers, production facilities and commercial printers looking to increase productivity by leveraging their existing equipment," said Fred Rosenzweig, president and COO, EFI. "DocuColor customers also will benefit from EFI's robust Variable Data Solutions. For example, the combination of EFI's EXP6000 controller and Xerox's new DocuColor 6060 engine creates the most powerful VDP solutions on the market today." The two VDP packages, which help users create customized marketing materials, are: * Pageflex Persona -- Fiery version features flexible containers that dynamically fit content within a document, based on images and text, by changing size and position. On-the-fly format changes are easily incorporated. * Atlas PrintShop Mail -- Fiery version simplifies the process of creating a variable information document with easy-to-use tools. "These software packages are excellent additions for the DocuColor line and for Xerox customers," said Gerhard Moll, senior vice president/general manager, Xerox Color Solutions Business Unit. "Xerox is committed to helping our customers get the most from their equipment and produce variable information jobs, however they are most comfortable." EFI's Fiery servers are optimized for variable data printing and driving engines at full rated speed, and include support for the emerging VDP standard PPML (Personalized Print Markup Language), which further maximizes print speed and efficiency by allowing users to store and re-use variable elements. The platforms also are compatible with languages such as Xerox VIPP and Fiery FreeForm technology, to ensure seamless integration into existing workflows. EFI's Velocity and Variable Data software solutions are now available through Xerox's direct sales force in North America. Velocity is certified for use with DocuColor 30/40 Color Copier/Printers and DocuColor 12 Printer/Copier, DocuColor 2045 and 2060 Digital Color Presses. Fiery-optimized versions of Atlas PrintShop Mail and Pageflex Persona are certified with the DocuColor 12 Printer/Copier, and DocuColor 2045 and 2060 Digital Color Presses.
