Heidelberg To Display Open, Scalable Solutions For Large Industrial Plants At Print '05

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, September 8, 2005 - Heidelberg will demonstrate its commitment to industrial printers at PRINT '05 with integrated solutions designed to handle complex production and business processes. Heidelberg's Industrial Print Solutions area in booth #1200 will include press, postpress, consumables and service offerings tailored specifically to industrial print shops producing long runs. “Large industrial print shops must continue to differentiate themselves from the competition to achieve success in today's market,” said Roland Krapp, vice president, sheetfed and Prinect product management, Heidelberg USA. “Heidelberg helps industrial printers integrate workflow and management components with prepress, press and postpress solutions, allowing them to achieve a high degree of automation, consistent production processes and reliable cost control.” Heidelberg's Industrial Print Solutions range from sophisticated platesetters and long perfecting presses to highly automated bindery solutions that can easily be integrated into the digital workflow. Industrial printers can further increase productivity and achieve maximum connectivity by integrating Heidelberg prepress offerings into the workflow. All Heidelberg equipment is easy to operate, modular and designed to accommodate the short turnaround times and high productivity that the industrial print market demands. For all service needs, printers can turn to Heidelberg's systemservice, which helps ensure maximum performance of equipment by providing continuous customer support - from the pre-sales stage to installation and beyond, covering the entire lifecycle of production systems. Heidelberg systemservice experts will be on hand at PRINT ‘05 to answer questions and guide booth visitors through the company's various service offerings. Among the Industrial Print Solutions that Heidelberg will feature at PRINT '05 are the following: Press Solutions: - Speedmaster CD 74-8-P+L - At PRINT '05, Heidelberg will present the eight-color Speedmaster CD 74 with perfector and coater to the international market. Designed for high-end industrial and commercial printers, the Speedmaster CD 74 produces short and long runs at top speed. This user-friendly and highly automated press offers cost advantages through speed and flexibility. The new eight-color CD 74 can print runs of four-over-four plus coating with the highest quality and productivity. Designed on the basis of the well-proven Heidelberg 3-drum perfecting device, this new perfector allows basic perfecting without limits based on stock thickness or speeds. For the CD 74, this system is combined with the innovative sheet travel concept to give the press unsurpassed flexibility. - Speedmaster SM 102-10-P with Perfecting Coating System and CutStar - Customer-oriented solutions and proven sheet-reversing technology make the Speedmaster SM 102 an ideal, highly productive press for industrial and commercial printers. The SM 102 prints double-sided five-color jobs in a single pass with the highest print quality in perfecting mode. The press also allows double-sided four-color printing sealed with an aqueous coat on both sides of the sheet. This coat serves as an overall protection coat, allowing almost instantaneous processing in the bindery, or as a reasonable gloss coat, enhancing the appearance and quality of the final product. The optional CutStar sheeter is a profitable investment for commercial printers with perfecting presses and for label printers, providing maximum flexibility and significant cost savings in reel stock alone. A 10-color Speedmaster SM 102 with perfector, Perfecting Coating System and CutStar reel-to-sheet feeder will be on display in Heidelberg's Industrial Print Solutions center. Postpress Solutions: - Stahlfolder TH 66 6/4/4 - The Stahlfolder TH 66 is a member of the new generation of folders that made its North American debut at Graph Expo 2004. This buckle-plate folder offers exceptional folding quality and shorter makeready, and is available in widths of 56, 66 and 82 cm. The modular design concept allows applications to be retrofitted for virtually all hardware features to suit individual requirements for easy integration into existing workflows. Optional automation features, such as automated fold roller settings and motorized buckle plates, significantly reduce folder makeready times. The machine is controlled by a touch-screen monitor with automatic learning mode and operator guidance. - Stahlfolder KH 82 KZLR - The Stahlfolder KH 82 provides the forward-thinking printer with a highly productive and economical folding solution that is ideal for signatures. The smaller footprint flexible feeder solution makes the KH folder a true one-operator folder at a lower investment level than typically required for signature folders. Typically, the KH folder is equipped with a pallet feeder, further reducing the need for additional staff. - Stitchmaster ST 400-8CFF - Designed for gathering, stitching and trimming, the Stitchmaster ST 400 is the first saddlestitcher for industrial booklet production that adapts to the product. This computerized, fully-automated saddlestitcher meets increasing customer demands for shorter turn- around times and higher productivity. Automated manual processes with computer-driven stepping motors give the operator more control over the functionality of the ST 400. The computer-enhanced makeready procedures with independent servo drive motors reduce makeready by up to 50 percent. The ST 400 is equipped with a user-friendly Windows interface with operator guidance via touch-screen, which simplifies operation and allows the machine to be integrated into a complete, end-to-end business workflow with data reporting. At PRINT '05, Heidelberg will display its conventional commercial feeders as well as newly developed web feeders with the Stitchmaster ST 400. - POLAR Cutting System L-R-P-137-T - The POLAR Cutting System L-R-P-137-T is tailored to the operating sequences of commercial print shops and bookbinderies - shops with diverse production requirements and quantities that require continuous use of production capacity. This space-saving system increases job flexibility, optimizes workflow and can buffer materials between preparation and cutting to compensate for different working speeds while handling short turnaround times with ease. The typical production program is comprised of folded sheets, leaflets, supplements, brochures for non-selective advertising, forms, labels, banderoles, postcards and similar products. Cutting materials are prepared by a stacklift and automatic jogger. A pile shelf supports buffering, and cutting takes place with the POLAR 137 high-speed cutter loaded from a gripper transport system. Unloading is performed automatically by Transomat. - POLAR Autojog / Offline Jogging - Making its North American debut at this year's PRINT, POLAR Autojog mimics human hands to arrange sheets and move on and off skids. Designed for label makers and general commercial printers, Autojog reduces labor, offers consistent flow, streamlines constant production and increases production capacity. - KAMA TS 74-60 HFS Die Cutter - The half-format KAMA automatic die cutter system is used by job printers, packaging printers and start-up companies in the box industry to replace hand cutters and cylindrical die cutters. The easily-operated machine is ideal for small to medium runs, and creates perfect creasing and cutting quality. The KAMA TS 74 can be used to produce a wide range of materials such as presentation folders, CD covers, window stickers, book covers, packaging material, product badges and stickers, including a broad range of label applications. - Compufold, Compucut, Compustitch Workstation PC - Printers can maximize the performance of high-speed cutters, cutting systems, stitchers and folders to avoid downtime with POLAR Compucut software and Prinect FCS 100 Compufold/Compustitch software. Cutting, stitcher setup and folding programs are generated on PCs and transferred to the pertaining equipment, allowing the system to program the next job while the current one is being executed. With the "data transfer from prepress" extension software, CIP3 files are loaded directly from various prepress systems and makeready is reduced even further. Also on display at PRINT '05 are Heidelberg's carefully tested and selected consumables offerings. Designed to ensure optimum performance and minimization of waste, Heidelberg consumables include the full support of Heidelberg's technical team. Heidelberg experts will be onsite in the Industrial Print Solutions area of the booth to recommend the most suitable consumables products designed to meet the needs of industrial printers.
