Large Publisher Of School Curriculm Upgrades Bindery With Heidelberg Equipment

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga. – July 14, 2004 – Heidelberg announced today that Pensacola Christian College’s (PCC) printshop, the largest printer of Christian and private school textbooks in the country, has installed six Stahl B30 buckle plate folders to increase productivity and improve the reliability of its bindery department. Pensacola Christian College, located in Pensacola, Fla., is one of America’s largest and most respected Christian day schools and home of A Beka Book Publishing, is the largest publisher of full-curriculum Christian text books in the country. Its printshop prints approximately 17 million books a year for more than 162 different countries out of a 100,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility on the college’s campus. “In order to get everything done on time we need every department and piece of equipment to be as reliable and up to date as possible so we can have everything ready to ship out before each semester begins,” said John Evans print shop manager. “We chose the Heidelberg folder because of its reputation in the industry as being the most reliable, the fastest and the most accurate folding system on the market. We take great pride at A Beka Books in the work that we do and so we wanted the best systems in place that could help us maintain the level of quality our clients have come to expect.” The B30 system has many built-in features that differentiate it from other folders, including the most advanced sheet-flow technology that folds at 8,300 inches per minute - the fastest folding rate in the industry. This speed has improved Pensacola’s bindery's productivity by nearly 15 percent and decreased overall operating costs by eliminating the amount of man hours needed in the department. “At the rate these systems are working and the productivity increases we’ve experienced in this short amount of time, it won’t be long before these systems have virtually paid for themselves,” said Evans. “We have relied on Heidelberg equipment for more than 30 years and we believe that the service, performance and user friendly systems you get with each purchase can’t be beat.” All new Stahlfolders are designed to help eliminate some of the most strenuous work that takes place in every bindery department. Some of the B30’s ergonomically engineered systems include the Zero Makeready Buckle Plates, lever operated controls for folding configurations, extended feed table and a low feed-height of 36 inches making it easy to continuously load and feed new jobs. The B30 also handles much heavier paper stocks and it can accommodate larger loads than other folders. The average run length for each book is approximately 60,000 copies with 11 different signatures. Besides printing and producing Christian books used in classrooms and for educational purposes, PCC’s printshop produces millions of other jobs each year for the college. From promotional and advertising pieces to handouts, tests, quizzes, employee and classroom materials, brochures, student guides, postcards, flyers, the printshop does it. The printshop employs 120 full-time staff and dozens of students for part-time help. A Beka Book publishing creates initial concepts and ideas to writes, designs, formats, edits, distributes and markets each of its books to more than one and a half million students in under six months. Arlin Horton, president and founder of Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola Christian Academy, and A Beka Book, and his wife, Beka Horton, senior vice president, have played an instrumental role in the growth and success of the Christian school movement since the early 50’s. “My wife and I take great pride in the work we’ve done over the years and believe that Heidelberg’s equipment has helped us promote our beliefs in the finest fashion possible,” said Arlin Horton. “It’s just been great relationship we’ve built with Heidelberg and look forward to continued growth and further installations.”
