Quark Offers Flexible Storage Options for QuarkDMS

Press release from the issuing company

BARCELONA, Spain (Ifra Expo) -- October 14, 2002 -- Quark Inc. today highlighted two storage options for Quark Digital Media System (QuarkDMS). QuarkDMS Storage Agent gives remote users faster access to media assets. QuarkDMS HSM Archive lets administrators automatically move assets to and from HSM storage locations. Central content management, local file storage QuarkDMS enables the rapid creation of new publishing materials by providing a central repository for all of an organization's digital files. Publishers can achieve greater consistency, higher quality, and stronger brand identity by leveraging existing assets stored and organized in QuarkDMS. However, remote access to files stored on distant servers can become slow. QuarkDMS Storage Agent lets distributed organizations benefit from both central content management and local storage. It gives each office faster access to the files they use, while making all assets available throughout the organization, anywhere around the world. QuarkDMS HSM Archive Businesses whose storage needs are constantly growing often find it too expensive to keep all their data on file servers, yet for those with an ongoing need to access legacy data, removing information from file servers may not be an option. QuarkDMS HSM Archive is server-side QuarkXTensions software that lets QuarkDMS administrators manage the movement of QuarkDMS assets to and from locations managed by Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) software. HSM software manages storage devices economically and without users being aware that files are being retrieved from backup storage media. QuarkDMS HSM Archive lets administrators define rules that automatically archive assets based on their metadata or contents, so legacy data can be moved to inexpensive storage. Users can still work with archived assets; the preview and the metadata are always searchable and available within QuarkDMS, so archive media is always easily accessible. If a user needs a high-resolution version of an asset, the user can issue a request to have the asset placed back online. A separately purchased HSM software package and archival hardware, such as a CD-R "jukebox" or tape library, are required to use QuarkDMS HSM Archive software. Availability QuarkDMS Storage Agent and QuarkDMS HSM Archive can be purchased directly from Quark. Customers in North America who are interested in QuarkDMS can e-mail: [email protected].
