Hitachi, Ltd. Restructuring Focuses on Printer Technologies SIMI VALLEY, Calif.--Oct. 1, 2002--Effective October 1, 2002 Hitachi Koki Imaging Solutions, Inc. (HiKIS) becomes Hitachi Printing Solutions America, Inc. (HPRSA, President and CEO Yasuo Kikuchi), as part of a newly formed wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., it was announced today. The former HiKIS was a subsidiary of Hitachi Koki Co., Ltd. (HKK). The Printing Systems Group of HKK and HiKIS were combined with the printer-related operations of Hitachi, Ltd. The new organization is Hitachi Printing Solutions, Ltd., President and CEO Toshiaki Katayama, with headquarters in Japan. Hitachi Printing Solutions America, Inc., located in Simi Valley, CA, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Printing Solutions, Ltd. The company's European operations, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, will be called Hitachi Printing Solutions Europe. "This restructuring merges HKK's world class printer technology, HiKIS' system solutions technology, and the technical development capabilities of Hitachi, Ltd." according to Mr. Katayama. "The combination of system solutions, color technologies and high speed printing technology will leverage our technological innovations across many printing applications. As one of the new company's major target market is the color printer business, it will focus its resources on this development." HPRSA will continue to focus on developing and producing monochrome cut sheet and continuous form laser printers, for which it already holds a large market share, as well as ink jet technology related devices, and low-speed to medium speed laser printers. In addition, the company will emphasize further growth of its highly successful consumable printer supplies business, marketed worldwide under the Dataproducts brand name.
