Second Benny Award Confirms the Excellence of Quad/Graphics

Press release from the issuing company

2002 Aveda magalog earns Premier Print Award September 9, 2002 -- (Quad/Graphics) -- If you agree with the Greek philosopher Aristotle that excellence is not an act, but a habit, there's little point in wondering why Quad/Graphics has received one of the printing industry's highest honors for the second year in a row -- the company simply made excellence a habit they are unwilling to break. The Printing Industries of America (PIA) has recently awarded Quad its second "Benny" -- the top award given in each category of the association's Premier Print Awards -- for work on the 2002 Aveda Magalog. Having won in the Best of Environmentally Sound Materials category, the piece goes above and beyond just demonstrating Quad’s quality printing capabilities; it showcases their willingness to partner with clients. "Aveda was once again looking to produce a high-end piece that would not only reflect the excellence of their product and services, but also demonstrate their commitment to the environment," said Jay Roberts, Minneapolis Sales. Cream of the crop  Aveda, the maker of pure, plant-based haircare, skincare and bodycare products, produces its magalog once every two years. Keeping in line with the company's commitment to the environment, the entire 2002 book, produced this past March in Quad’s Sussex plant, was printed web offset on recycled stock with low-scuff, soy-based inks.  Employing non-traditional materials is not unique to Quad/Graphics; or is producing an eco-friendly piece that is also a quality piece, as evidenced by the Benny. "Quad/Graphics is not just a high-volume printer -- we're a high-quality printer," reasons Kim Michels, Sussex Customer Service.   The yearly Premier Print Awards – awarded by the PIA with the help of its partner, the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) – honor excellence in design and quality printing. Out of more than 4,800 entries received this year, 1,415 were recognized. Of those, 94 submissions were awarded a Benny, the Best of Category distinction. Last year, Quad won a Benny in the Magazine Series category for the June 2000 issue of Wired. Awards will be presented at the Premier Print Awards Gala being held Sunday, October 6, at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago.
