SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – Lane Press, a leading magazine printing company, announced today that it has installed a new Wohlenberg perfect binding system, purchased through Best Graphics, exclusive importer of Wohlenberg perfect binding and trimming equipment. This installation quickly follows that of two new saddle stitch systems and an inkjet addressing system, rounding out a comprehensive upgrade to the company’s postpress operations.

The Wohlenberg City e 6000, a state-of-the-art binder, runs at a speed of 6,000 cycles per hour and features automation capabilities that reduce setup and make-ready times—in part by enabling next-job setup while production is ongoing. In addition, the City e offers a combination of features, both automated and manual, that ensure outstanding quality and a high degree of reliability.

Lane’s configuration of this binder includes a rotary cover feeder, 12 pocket feeders, two spine preparation stations, hotmelt (EVA) and PUR spine gluing systems, (PUR) side glue, and an automated three-knife trimmer. The stitcher’s capabilities enable Lane Press to produce both thinner and thicker perfect bound books than previously possible. With this unit, Lane also adds perfect bound digest-size products to its offerings.

With the addition of the Wohlenberg City e, Lane’s binding capabilities include four high-speed saddle stitch binders and three perfect binding lines. The City e is fully installed and operational.

“In today’s media market, the needs of magazine publishers are shifting and evolving,” said Executive Vice President Chris Armstrong. “It is critical that Lane Press continues to upgrade its equipment, technology, and capabilities to meet these evolving needs. This particular upgrade to our perfect binding capabilities enables us to offer a wider range of perfect bound products. We are excited about these enhanced options and know our customers are, too.”
