Digimarc is a truly disruptive technology. I think it has the potential to replace barcodes and maybe even RFID tags. Wegmans has been testing it on their store brand products for a year or so and HP is using it in the Link product line too.

As an alternative trigger to UPC (or EAN) codes, QR and the rest, imperceptible watermarks are a fabulous advance. While Digimarc have done a great job developing this technology, partners like Linkz-im.com have taken on creating a platform for management of these triggers.
With Linkz, product managers at CocoMojo, Premiere Products and so on really get control of the way end-customers can interact with their packaging.
