Hey, we finally have printing shipments data! And it was kind of worth the wait. After a pretty flat stretch for most of the year, shipments rose in September from $7.40 billion to $7.62 billion. Most of 2025 has certainly had its challenges economically—the tariffopalooza has not helped matters, and now the employment situation is taking a turn for the worse—and this year has not been as good as last year (at least up to this point; we’re nervous about November and December), but it looks like we are making up some ground.
Shipments are only half of the story; profitability is the other half, and as costs for just about everything continue to rise, printers can only pass so much of that onto customers, which means that despite how much shipments (aka revenues) rise, profitability may remain flat, or even decline.
Year-to-date (January to September) shipments for 2025 are at $66.49 billion, a bit below last year’s $67.51 billion. October is usually a pretty good month, so we’ll have to see how much more ground we can make up if we want to at least match 2024’s shipments numbers.
