EFI's Chief Revenue Officer Frank Mallozzi talks about the company's decision to pull out of drupa 2021, its creation of a virtual event, EFI Engage, to replace EFI Connect 2021, and shares an update on the EFI BOLT including talking about its recognition with an InterTech Award. Entrepreneur and innovator Kirby Best has been working with Gerber to make on-demand fashion design and manufacturing tools more accessible to designers and brands, especially smaller organizations that have found the cost of these tools to be a barrier. The result is Eloise.Fashion, where designers can leverage tools and technology to create designs, prepare them for manufacturing, and connect with manufacturing facilities such as OnPoint Manufacturing. Frank discovered these tiny editions of the Boston Herald that were printed in the mid-1940s. These were special editions that were reduced in size photographically for shipment overseas to members of the armed services during WWII to give them a slice of home—primarily for the headlines as the text ended up about four points. These editions were sponsored by the Jordan Marsh department store and printed using offset lithography at a time when letterpress was the dominant printing technology. Watch Video

This week, Warren talks with Richard Kouwenhoven, President & COO of Hemlock Printers, a 52-year-old company based In British Columbia. Since more than 80% of Hemlock’s work is offset, March and April saw a dramatic drop in volume, although it has been creeping back up.
