Got a question in email that I want everyone to have a chance to read my clarification.

The questions was about this statement:

"The roadmap is driven more by non-users than it is by existing users."

My point here is that software vendors often prioritize feature requests driven by prospects and competitive pressure OVER the feature requests by their paying customers. This is hard to break b/c sales is top priority in most for profit companies (obviously).

If a sales person at the software company says, this feature will close a deal vs. an existing customer requesting a feature – which one do you think gets higher priority?

This is why I like software subscription models b/c the focus of the software company is to keep subscribers as well as get new ones.

It isn't an all or nothing - its just the reality of capitalism (growth is high pressure - especially for public companies who are expected to show consistent, predictable, and profitable growth every 90 days).
