Treacyfaces: Visionary Typographic Revolution. For Three Decades

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

Press release from the issuing company

Treacyfaces truly relishes its hard-won reputation as the premier upstart quality digital type foundry. It continually upends traditional notions about how type fonts "must be made only this way” and “must be displayed only that way”, with brave typographic creativity that takes on the status quo and forces industry revolutions.

It's a compelling tale of creative vision and relentless hard work — seeing where designers’ type needs would be headed, and quickly outdistancing more established foundries to provide more fully comprehensive type solutions.

Today, Treacyfaces.com is a globally respected style innovator, with its now well-proven type designs providing the world’s foremost agencies, ateliers and consultancies, printers, developers and blue-chip manufacturers countless new typographic ways to enliven their branding, marketing graphics and publishing.

Groundbreaking Treacyfaces® TF font families like TFForever®, TFTrantino™, TFHabitat®,TFBrynMawr®, TFCrossword®, TFAvian™, TFZacron™ and hundreds more, make it happen.

Joe Treacy, the legendary founder and Director of Typography at Treacyfaces says: “When I started designing, I quickly realized there was an erosion of type quality in progress for several decades, despite technological advances. Creative pros worldwide love and need what I call True Graphic Arts Quality Fonts — those that are both truly innovative in their styling and fit, and well-produced to withstand the rigors of production.

The daily reality was — and still is — that creative pros must wade through thousands of mediocre and often ineffective, badly drawn and dated fonts as well as unlicensed lookalikes. Coming from an art direction, graphic design and creative direction background, I experienced it myself for many years. And then I realized: No wonder designers give up and revert to old favorites, by then often out of time and missing deadlines. The font industry itself was letting them down — making them believe they were better, while actually forcing designers to settle for 'good enough' and dated work that was slowing creativity.

As the creative custodian of my clients' brands and advertising, I've never been content to settle for 'good enough'. I wanted more and far superior font options, and I saw that I was going to have to create them. At first, it was simply to improve the quality and exclusivity of my own client layouts. Then, I realized that my unique font families could help all creative and production pros improve their own creativity.

Treacyfaces was born when I asked myself: What if there was one digital type foundry that only releases True Graphic Arts Quality fonts? Types that work so incredibly well just by installing them that they practically set themselves with a level of consistency and professionalism never before seen. Typefaces with such striking visual resonance and emotional appeal that they leap off the page with their superior letterform design and exceptional spacing that takes the concept of Natural Fit to the next level. Head and Body with Soul never before seen and felt.

I personally created Treacyfaces and its exclusive Treacyfaces type font collection to help designers rediscover True Graphic Arts Quality Fonts. In short order, we began to influence the entire industry in various ways. Then, we influenced the world of graphic design with our seductive curvatures. Joe worked with independent type designers to perfect another several hundred fonts and bring them to market within Treacyfaces. That creativity led to the opportunity to assume ownership of the venerable Headliners foundry, a gold standard of display typography for decades. To honor Headliners' and its artists' many achievements, Joe created many more weights and varieties that Headliners itself never created that greatly expanded the usefulness of those font families.

Literally, designers could not get enough. And here we are, all these decades later, with the world's foremost agencies, consultancies, printers, and more relying on Treacyfaces more than ever."

At Treacyfaces.com, we give creative pros and business users alike worldwide the freedom to test-drive and select licenses for exclusive Treacyfaces Font Families (our TFFs, or FAMS), and Individual varieties (VARs), in ways never before possible.

Many also look to our Treacyfaces TFX Custom Font Division to customize logo, branding and packaging fonts exclusively for their use. The custom projects can run the gamut from solely modifying certain Treacyfaces characters to reflect the nature of their logo. All the way to creating new Treacyfaces branding fonts for them, in any of the world's languages. Our experience, our creativity and vast understanding of marketing, advertising and production requirements make us the perfect type foundry to partner with the largest multinationals to clients of any size."

Treacy adds, "I'm very proud of our countless accomplishments, helping designers worldwide discover how far Treacyfaces fonts can take their creativity."
