Press release from the issuing company

Expands Global Reach With Existing and New Customers STAMFORD, CONN. - April 15, 2002 - MeadWestvaco Corporation today announced the acquisition of Kartoncraft Limited, a leading Irish producer of high-quality pharmaceutical packaging. Kartoncraft, located near Dublin, Ireland, employs about 80 people and also produces packaging for consumer electronic, beverage and food applications. "Ireland is a hub for many major pharmaceutical companies operating in Europe," said Rita V. Foley, senior vice president and chief operating officer, Consumer Packaging Group (CPG). "Kartoncraft's location and reputation as a high-quality supplier provides us with an excellent base for growth with existing and new customers. Our Mebane subsidiary is the largest U.S. supplier of folding cartons for pharmaceutical applications, and, like Mebane, Kartoncraft has relationships with several leading global pharmaceutical companies." Foley noted that the addition of Kartoncraft reflects the CPG's plans to grow with customers in targeted strategic markets to meet their complete needs. "We are fortunate to have Kartoncraft's leadership stay with us, ensuring consistent service to our customers," Foley added.
