Toppan to Present Advanced Solutions at High Security Printing ASIA

Press release from the issuing company

Toppan to participate as Gold Sponsor of leading international conference for banknote and ID card security technologies

Tokyo – Toppan Printing (Toppan), a global leader in communication, security, packaging, décor materials, and electronics solutions, will be displaying its security solutions for banknotes and ID cards at High Security Printing ASIA (https://www.reconnaissance.net/hsp-asia/), to be held at the InterContinental Yokohama Grand hotel in Yokohama, Japan, from November 25 to 27.

This will mark the first time that High Security Printing ASIA has been held in Japan since its launch in 2002. The conference brings together representatives of a diverse range of organizations, including government agencies, central banks, national printing bureaus, system integrators, and printing companies involved in security printing. As a Gold Sponsor, Toppan will be providing the conference badges, which will incorporate multiple Toppan technologies.

The Toppan booth will showcase a range of high-security and advanced anti-counterfeit technologies, including passport printing and technologies using special inks that enable authentication. Toppan personnel will also be giving talks on the latest ID security and optical technologies, including enhanced security for identity documents and new OVD features.

Passport and ID related solutions on show will include IN-signia™, Crystagram PC™, the CP500 printer, and the Power Perso DLE laser engraving printer. IN-signia™, announced earlier this year, is a new feature for the polycarbonate data pages of passports. An aluminum graphic is embedded into a clear window and a second photograph of the passport owner is laser engraved on top of it. This not only enables high visibility, but also helps to prevent photograph counterfeiting from the rear side because the graphic protects the photograph. Crystagram PC™ is a hologram that can be embedded into polycarbonate substrates used for ID cards and passport datapages. With Crystagram PC™, issues of low brightness and low visibility resulting from transfer and laser engraving processes have been overcome by facilitating low temperature transfer to create a hologram with high brightness and outstanding design.

The CP500 is a card printer capable of high-durability, high-speed color printing. It uses pigment ink for color printing, while the dot-by-dot printing technology makes counterfeiting difficult and enables visual verification using a loupe. The Power Perso DLE is a laser engraving printer that makes it possible to produce cards with friction-resistant surfaces, high durability, and solvent resistance. This is achieved with a technique that uses a laser to produce color inside the card. The technologies of the CP500 and Power Perso DLE can be combined to produce highly durable, high-security hybrid cards. The conference badges for this year’s High Security Printing ASIA have been printed using the CP500 and Power Perso DLE and feature IN-signia™ and Crystagram PC™.

For banknotes, Toppan offers high-security ink that facilitates the addition of an authentication function during the offset printing process. Adding just a small amount to the ink used for banknote printing makes verification using near-infrared light possible without impacting color or printability. Following adoption for commemorative banknotes to mark the 100th anniversary of Mexico’s constitution, Toppan’s security ink has been used for a new series of Mexican banknotes since 2018.

“Toppan is very proud to participate as a Gold Sponsor of High Security Printing ASIA this year,” said Yoshiyuki Mizuguchi, General Manager of Global Business Development for Toppan’s Security Products business. “Visitors will be able to see how Toppan’s cutting-edge, innovative solutions and combinations of them are leading the way in preventing counterfeiting, enabling verification, and enhancing security for passports, banknotes, and ID cards.”
