Xerox DocuSP 2000XC Controller: Common Platform for Production Printers

Press release from the issuing company

New Technology Offers Compatibility Between High-End DocuTech, DocuPrint, DocuColor Lines ROCHESTER, N.Y.--April 8, 2002-- Xerox Corporation today announced one of its major technologies of the year, a common platform for operating digital color and black-and-white production printers that saves time, lowers costs and reduces training needs for printing facilities. Until now, differences in color and black-and-white printing technologies have required separate controllers with different workflows, adding complexity and cost for print shops that use both. The new Xerox DocuSP 2000XC Controller -- a workstation that processes print files and drives the printer -- increases compatibility between the company's industry-leading DocuTech, DocuPrint and DocuColor production printing lines. It enables operators to run jobs on multiple printers with common workflow software and maximum productivity. As the initial color offering in the new common platform, the DocuSP 2000XC will support the Xerox DocuColor 2000 Series of digital color presses, including 60 and 45 page-per-minute (ppm) models. The DocuColor 2000 is the market's most successful digital production color press with nearly one-and-a-half times more installs than all competitors combined over the last two years. The new controller is built upon the same DocuSP platform used for the Xerox DocuTech Production Publisher Series, which has had more than 25,000 placements since its introduction in 1990. Color-enabled DocuSP is among the strategic technology platforms cited by Xerox as key growth drivers in 2002 and beyond. "We developed the DocuSP common controller in response to customers who asked for a single workflow in digital production printing operations,"said Ursula Burns, president, Xerox Document Systems and Solutions Group. "This offering broadens our customers' choices, saves money and improves productivity, while providing investment protection for those who step up to the DocuColor iGen3 Digital Production Press in the future." Both the DocuColor iGen3 and the DocuSP 2000XC Controller will be featured at the IPEX trade show, Europe's largest printing exhibition of the year, from April 9 to 17, in Birmingham, U.K. RGC Communications, a leading commercial printer based in Roselle, Ill., uses a DocuSP 2000XC and a DocuColor 2060 to run demanding variable information print jobs programmed in native PostScript. "The DocuSP controller is the most powerful and reliable RIP we have used for color variable information printing, and its color consistency is excellent,"said Simon Pawlik, analyst, RGC Communications. "As a DocuTech user, we're also expecting to get a real productivity boost by using DocuSP and the color-enabled DigiPath as a single workflow for color, black-and-white and mixed digital print jobs." Xerox DigiPath Production Software extends the DocuSP workflow for scanning, makeready (document preparation), digital storage, Web viewing and Web submission. The DocuSP 2000XC Controller is available immediately in North America with a list price of $49,000. A color version of DocuSP will be available in Europe in the third quarter.
