Innovative Workflow and Mobile Printing Solutions on Display at Global Print Show FOSTER CITY, Calif.--April 8, 2002--Electronics For Imaging today announced that its latest innovations in graphic arts workflow software will be on display at IPEX 2002 from April 9-17. IPEX, in Birmingham U.K., is the largest International trade show for the graphic arts industry. EFI's theme for IPEX -- "Smart Solutions"-- will include demonstrations of EFI's powerful new Fiery System 5 software, prepress workflow capabilities, the latest Velocity workflow software, and Variable Data and Document Security printing solutions. EFI's PrintMe Networks will also be featured throughout the convention halls, enabling tens of thousands of IPEX attendees to instantly print from any wireless device to any PrintMe-enabled printer at the show. "With the widespread acceptance of digital printing technology, attention has now turned toward fully integrated digital printing workflow solutions,"said Guy Gecht, Chief Executive Officer of Electronics for Imaging. "EFI's deep investment in research and development enables us to deliver the most advanced solutions designed specifically for graphic arts professionals to dramatically improve the value and quality of their services." EFI will demonstrate its latest products and solutions in its "Smart Solutions"booth in Hall 5, Stand 459, including: * New Fiery System 5 Software EFI's powerful new Fiery System 5 software takes EFI's new Fiery Z5 and Z18 servers to the next level, with the latest innovations that make it easy to create, print, scan and manage high quality images. Fiery System 5 software extends EFI's focus into the high-end graphic arts arena with cutting-edge color management, sophisticated job processing capabilities, and a suite of specialized tools for graphic arts professionals. * EFI Prepress Workflow Technology EFI's new prepress workflow solution is based on the familiar, user-friendly, Fiery front-end architecture combined with advanced prepress capabilities to provide a comprehensive 'proof to plate,' PDF-based workflow for quick printers and commercial printers. "With the continued migration towards a fully digital workflow in the offset printing sector, EFI has drawn on its considerable expertise to provide a solution that meets the needs of graphic arts professionals with the same ease-of-use and quality they expect from our industry-leading Fiery technology,"said Gecht. * Velocity Workflow Software Enhancements EFI will also show the latest capabilities of Velocity workflow software designed to increase productivity and maximize the print production process. Velocity can now control up to 12 devices at once, giving customers even more workflow control and greater productivity by balancing large jobs over multiple printers, and splitting jobs between color and black-and-white devices. With the availability of Velocity Estimate, print shops can now price over the counter jobs more quickly and accurately. New features also include enhanced color split merging capabilities using a Duplo off-line collator, and support for Windows 2000. * Variable Data Solutions Demand for one-to-one marketing solutions in printing is increasing as users demand more flexibility and ease in document personalization. Drawing on its technological expertise, EFI has developed an extensive range of cost-effective, yet robust, high performance Variable Data Solutions that are easy to apply. They combine the capabilities of its latest generation Fiery technology with Fiery FreeForm, Fiery-optimized versions of Atlas PrintShop Mail and Pageflex Persona, and a server version of Pageflex Mpower for high end users. Said Gecht, "EFI is fully committed to providing the industry with an open variable data printing solution which provides compatibility to popular legacy languages as well as supporting the emerging PPML industry standard. By taking full advantage of evolving VDP applications to maximize productivity, EFI is leading the variable data revolution in terms of speed, ease-of-use and flexibility.'' * Document Security Solution EFI has also integrated its industry-leading print server technology with powerful page encryption software to develop a secure document management solution that enables designated users to send, track and receive sensitive documents via the Internet. Senders can maintain complete control over who can print the document and how many copies can be viewed or printed, ensuring full protection of confidential information. * Free Internet Printing at IPEX with PrintMe Networks EFI has installed six PrintMe kiosks throughout the IPEX convention floor and in the press room so attendees can experience this breakthrough mobile printing solution firsthand. Simply by opening a free PrintMe account at www.printme.com, attendees will be able to instantly and easily print documents, presentations and other materials from their wireless devices to the PrintMe-enabled printers anytime during the show. "We are excited to give IPEX attendees the opportunity to experience the convenience and freedom that PrintMe provides,"said Gecht. "PrintMe Networks will change the way the world prints by making it possible to print from any mobile device to any printer without any hassles. With our partnerships with leading printer manufacturers, print-for-pay providers and mobile technology companies, we are quickly building a network that will make anytime, anywhere printing a global reality." In addition to the EFI booth and PrintMe kiosks, EFI's latest technologies and products can also be seen on over 100 printer and copier devices at EFI's OEM partner booths at IPEX, including: Canon, Epson, Konica, Minolta, Oce, Ricoh, Sharp and Xerox.
