Press release from the issuing company

72 Page-Per-Minute Multifunction Device Augments Company's Print-On-Demand Products; Booklet Trimmer, Universal Send Options Compatible With Other imageRUNNERs LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.---April 3, 2002-- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc., today announced the immediate availability of the imageRUNNER 7200 Networked Office System and two key high-volume accessories: the Booklet Trimmer-A1 and the Universal Send feature that enables hard-copy documents to be scanned once and "pushed" to multiple destinations across an enterprise through a variety of formats. All three products will be on display at the upcoming Canon Digital Solution Forum event taking place at New York's Jacob Javits Convention Center April 23-25. The Canon imageRUNNER 7200 is a 72 page-per-minute black-and-white digital copier with optional network printing and scanning capabilities(a). The imageRUNNER 7200 targets high-volume corporate departments, Central Reprographic Departments (CRDs) and Print-for-Pay and Print On Demand environments. For consistency in product offerings, the connectivity, software, and document finishing tools available with the imageRUNNER 7200 are identical to those for the imageRUNNER 8500/105 devices, enabling organizations to significantly reduce system training time. "The imageRUNNER 7200 adds bench strength to Canon's offerings for the high-volume and Print On Demand markets," said Dennis Amorosano, director and assistant general manager for Canon U.S.A.'s Copier and Network Office Systems Division. "With its intermediate copy speed and compatibility to existing imageRUNNER systems, the imageRUNNER 7200 offers new options for an enterprise, while allowing customers to protect their current investment in Canon equipment." Canon imageRUNNER 7200 Specifications The imageRUNNER 7200 maintains Canon's leadership in delivering comprehensive finishing functions to the corporate office. Several options are available, including single and multi-position stapling of up to100 sheets. Automatic saddle-stitch booklet making, 2 and 3-hole punch, and support for Z-folding and document insertion are also available through additional accessories, including the new Booklet Trimmer-A1, which trims the leading edge of saddle-stitch booklets. In addition to its basic local and network scanning capabilities, the imageRUNNER 7200 can be upgraded with Canon's Universal Send feature. Universal Send allows users to scan and distribute documents simultaneously via e-mail, Internet fax and shared file server though a single operation. Each Universal Send kit for the imageRUNNER 7200/8500/105 ships with a 20-user version of eCopy Desktop software, allowing users to receive, annotate, and distribute documents to their desktops. The imageRUNNER 7200 engine supports a monthly print volume of up to 350,000 impressions, with superior output quality at 600 x 600 dpi and 256 grayscale resolution. With optional 10/100 Ethernet network connectivity and printing support, the device can perform scanning and true multi-tasking through a robust combination of intuitive software drivers and control panel features. An internal 10.2 GB Image Server and 192 MB of RAM allows the imageRUNNER 7200 to scan up to five copy jobs in Copy Reservation mode. A Job Build mode allows a user to combine 100 simplex and duplex originals using either the document feeder or platen glass. The same memory can be used for a Confidential Mail Box function, which allows up to 7,700 scanned or printed documents to be stored in 100 user-named mailboxes. A 100-sheet automatic document feeder, two 1500-sheet paper trays, and two 550-sheet user-adjustable paper cassettes that can handle paper from Statement size to 11" x 17" are included as standard features on the imageRUNNER 7200. A 3,500-sheet paper deck that boosts on-line paper capacity to an impressive 7,650 sheets is available as an option. High-End Print Controller Support The imageRUNNER 7200 supports two print controllers: the Canon-designed Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-B3 or the imagePASS-M1 Print Controller, developed by Canon and Electronics for Imaging. The Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-B3 is best suited for handling text-intensive documents, or where PCL5e/6 page description language represents the bulk of jobs sent to the printer. The imagePASS-M1 Print Controller is specially designed to meet the needs of customers printing true Adobe PostScript 3 files, complex graphics and variable data output, as well as larger, more complex files. Pricing and Availability The imageRUNNER 7200 is available immediately through Authorized Canon U.S.A Dealers and Canon Business Solutions locations at a suggested retail price of $28,000.
