Sensient Technologies Acquires ECS Specialty Inks and Dyes

Press release from the issuing company

Acquisition Expands Rapidly Growing Technical Dyes and Inks Business MILWAUKEE--April 1, 2002-- Sensient Technologies today announced that it has acquired ECS Specialty Inks and Dyes, a producer and marketer of inks for specialty printing applications. The business is located in Morges, Switzerland and reported revenues of approximately $12 million last year. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed. The acquisition of ECS along with the acquisition of SynTec (Germany) earlier this year will provide a strategic base for building Sensient's rapidly growing inks and dyes business in Europe. This business includes ink for ink jet printing as well as many other specialty dye and ink products for laser printing. "Sensient's Specialty Inks and Dyes business started from nothing about four years ago and should reach about $125MM in sales this year," said Kenneth P. Manning, Chairman, President and CEO of Sensient Technologies Corporation. "This is one more example of the success of our acquisition program; and our ability to combine a series of smaller technical companies into a significant business with a worldwide reach." ECS is a primary supplier of advanced inks used in specialty printing in Europe. These applications are highly specialized "state-of-the-art" color technologies.
