New York, N.Y. (March 29, 2002) - Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) today announced Adobe Systems Incorporated as a sponsor of the 21st Annual MPA Kelly Awards for Outstanding Magazine Advertising. Adobe joins The Ad Age Group ("Advertising Age" and "Creativity" magazines) and American Airlines as official sponsors of the event. "We're pleased to welcome Adobe to The Kelly Awards," said Ellen Oppenheim, executive vice president/chief marketing officer, MPA. "Their industry goes hand-in-hand with ours, and this is an excellent opportunity to work together." Adobe's professional layout and design program, Adobe InDesign, has been named "Official Page Layout and Design Software" of the awards. InDesign 2.0 introduces editable transparency effects such as drop shadows, table creation, long document support, extensible markup language (XML) import/export support and a greatly enhanced printing interface. InDesign also offers tight integration with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and provides native support for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows XP. InDesign also enables creative professionals to more effectively create, manage and deliver visually rich content to multiple channels including print, Web, eBooks and PDAs. Graphic designers, production artists, and prepress professionals in advertising agencies, magazines, newspapers, catalogs, and book publishers are adopting InDesign 2.0 worldwide to exercise creative freedom and true design innovation while improving productivity. "The MPA's Kelly Awards are an ideal opportunity for us to demonstrate to the advertising community that Adobe is supportive of their creative efforts," said Peter Isaacson, director of brand marketing, Adobe. The Kelly Awards, created by the MPA in 1982, recognize, honor and reward outstanding magazine advertising. Beginning in January of each year, advertising agencies are invited to enter their best campaigns in competition for the Kelly Grand Prize of $100,000. This year's judging took place on March 20 in New York. The judging panel is composed of high-level agency creative directors and, for the first time, advertising and marketing executives from major national advertisers. The 25 finalists will be announced in early April; the winners will be announced at a black-tie gala on Tuesday, May 14 at PIER SIXTY in New York City.
