Greensboro Firm Uses Speedmaster 52 to Produce Remembrance Poster

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga.--Sept. 9, 2002--Printing Services of Greensboro (PSG), marking the one-year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, is using a 5-Color Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 printing press to produce a "Remembrance" poster capturing the Tower of Lights over New York City. PSG first used its Speedmaster 52, a 5-color perfector with a coater, to print more than 130,000 World Trade Center Twin Tower posters for charity immediately following last year's attacks and wanted to use the printer to produce something special to commemorate the tragic loss this year. Cliff Wassmann's striking shot of the lights illuminating a heart-shaped spot on the clouds over downtown Manhattan immediately caught the attention of PSG's Marketing Manager, Teresa Yeager. She contacted Wassmann and he agreed to donate the image for use as a poster. "We wanted to find a fitting image that would invoke Americans to pause and remember those who lost their lives at the hands of terrorists and the importance of remembering those men and women still fighting overseas for our freedom," Yeager explained. "We plan to print 80,000 posters at PSG and with all the requests we are receiving from around the world, we hope that other printers across the nation will unite with us one more time and help get this poster into the hands of everyone who desires to have it." More than 1,000 of the 12 x 18 inch posters, for example, have been sent to the NYU Downtown Hospital, which received victims from the World Trade Center last year, for its memorial service next week. The Jersey City Fire Department has also requested hundreds of posters for distribution to firehouses throughout Manhattan. Orders have poured in from businesses, churches, museums and government offices across the country. "The posters turned out beautifully and to learn that the response has been overwhelming is just phenomenal," says Niels Winther president of Heidelberg USA. "It is marvelous to see the work of one of our customers and machines being used in such a way." Although the poster is free, people are encouraged to donate to September's Mission, a non-profit organization founded by Monica Iken, who lost her husband in the tragedy. His body was never found. The goal of September's Mission is to make sure the wishes of the victims' families are taken into consideration in the construction of a permanent memorial on the site in New York.
