CSI Upgrades Print Operations with HP Indigo 12000 Digital Press and PrintOS

Press release from the issuing company

CSI, a full-service commercial print provider in the DC area, has chosen an HP Indigo 12000 Digital Press and HP PrintOS automation to upgrade its operations, with the new technology replacing older offset and digital units.

Streamlining its print facility with the HP Indigo 12000 press, the Alexandria, Virginia-based CSI replaced one half-sized offset press and three smaller-format digital presses.

“We have gained a new level of efficiency with the larger digital sheet size and are utilizing many of the PrintOS app capabilities to provide data and enable close monitoring of print operations,” said Rob Harris, COO at CSI. “Less back-and-forth communication is needed between the press operators and management. We are also seeing that most problems are immediately made evident through the analytical data that is pushed through every day.”

PrintOS is an expanding portfolio of HP and integrated partner apps running on an open platform, printos.com. HP PrintOS uses state-of-the-art cloud technology to simplify and automate production, delivering new levels of flexibility, affordability and productivity without the need for traditional capital investments and ongoing IT expenses for maintenance of server hardware and software products.

CSI is using the HP Indigo press for a variety of commercial printing applications, including perfect bound book printing and variable content.

The 29-inch format HP Indigo 12000 Digital Press offers high-volume production speeds of up to 4,600 20 x 29-inch sheets per hour.

According to Harris, the new HP Indigo 12000 press is proving it can handle a high-volume workload in the first three months of operation since installation at the end of 2018.

In addition to freeing up a sizeable amount of space in its print shop, CSI is saving on waste on the HP Indigo 12000 including printing in just the quantities needed. “We are passing on this benefit to our clients with the availability to offer shorter runs with impactful versioning, thereby reducing the amount of unused marketing collateral,” said Harris.

An unmatched range of media capabilities includes synthetic, metalized and canvas stocks using One Shot technology. Advanced color capabilities include up to 7 ink stations and special inks such as HP Indigo ElectroInk White and fluorescents.

CSI provides a wide range of services from offset printing to super-wide grand format printing. CSI was established in 1976 as a conventional typesetting house before migrating from a prepress service bureau to the full-service digital print provider they are today.
