AVT Presents Wide Range of Label Inspection Solutions at Labelexpo

Press release from the issuing company

First American Showing of PrintVision/Apollo-Labels Booth #740 HOD-HASHARON, ISRAEL, August 27, 2002 — Advanced Vision Technology Ltd (AVT), of Hod-Hasharon, Israel will be presenting its full range of automatic inspection systems (AIS) for process control and quality assurance (QA) solutions for the label and narrow web printing markets in booth #740 at Labelexpo Americas 2002, Rosemont, Illinois, September 10th through 12th. In addition to the systems on display in its own booth, AVT solutions will be featured at the Arpeco Engineering Ltd booths #1411 and #1403, and also at the Print Vision, Inc. booth #3905. Labelexpo Americas 2002 is a milestone in AVT’s history because for the first time it is exhibiting the PrintInspector/Prima and ProoFit, from the Geiger product line. Three products will be shown at the AVT booth: the PrintVision/Genesis Single ModeSM, the PrintInspector/Prima, and ProoFit. The PrintInspector/Prima can also be seen at the Arpeco booth and at the Print Vision, Inc. booth. At the AVT booth, the PrintInspector will be shown on an Arpeco Tracker Premier rewinder. The PrintInspector/Prima delivers absolute 100% print inspection over all labels on moving webs between 50mm and 400mm in width at press speeds up to 200 meters/minute. Errors in color, text, register, spots, streaks, misprints and faulty bar codes can be detected down to pixel levels as well as problems specific to label production, such as missing labels and defective matrix removal. The PrintInspector also provides an accurate count of the number of good labels produced. The PrintInspector/Prima has a number of features that are tailored to the highly demanding pharmaceutical labels sector. These include: the inspection of each individual label, and the high definition of inspection parameters – right down to the pixel level (or in square millimeters). With the exact label count facility and the inspection of matrix removal, pharmaceutical labels printers can be assured of the highest degree of inspection possible. The ProoFit is designed for printers using digital files. It performs the added function of comparing the printed job with the digital data "master". ProoFit can be used for comparing the running job against "good copy" masters, and can compare PDF data with printing plates, screen prints, film, print or other digital data, giving printers maximum quality assurance. The PrintVision/Genesis Single ModeSM is an Automatic Inspection System for narrow web applications. It offers full functionality of color, register, mis-print, spot and streak defect detection, while designed to fit the space limitations and special needs of label printers. It has a single monitor and an optional small optical head to fit the limited press space if needed. The PrintVision/Genesis samples the web, compares images to "good copy" masters, and alerts the operator to any defects. It is fully upgradeable to incorporate all of AVT’s process control options. PrintVision/Genesis systems are in operation around the world where they are delivering bottom-line results to label printers serving food and drink, pharmaceutical, and wine label customers, as well as those requiring other narrower web applications. AVT at the Apreco Booths #1411 and #1403 Having established itself as the leading supplier of AIS and QA solutions to the packaging market, AVT launched the PrintVision/Apollo-Labels system for label printing applications at Labelexpo Europe last Autumn, and exhibited the system again at IPEX 2002. Labelexpo Americas 2002 marks the premiere of the PrintVision/Apollo-Labels solution in North America. AVT’s solutions are designed to fit any press and many types of finishing systems and rewinders. In the labels sector, AVT has worked closely with Arpeco Engineering Ltd of Ontario, Canada. The combination of Arpeco rewinders with AVT systems, especially the PrintInspector and the PrintVision/Apollo-Labels, creates the ultimate automatic 100% inspection station for labels. The cooperation between AVT and Arpeco has resulted in a number of sales of rewinders with PrintInspector installed to North American label printers. AVT is pleased to have both these solutions displayed in the Arpeco booth. The PrintVision/Apollo-Labels will be mounted on a Tracker Premier, while the PrintInspector will be on a Platform 20/20 slitter-rewinder with inspection and repair facilities. The PrintVision/Apollo-Labels is a 100% inspection system providing full quality assurance solution in label production. The system visually inspects labels and narrow web printed products, and can be integrated with a rewinder and other finishing equipment to form an Automatic Inspection Station, or be mounted on the press. The PrintVision/Apollo-Labels system ensures that only good copy is shipped to the customer. The PrintVision/Apollo-Labels uses a color LCCD camera and sophisticated software to store "good master" copies in its memory during set up. Detection tolerances can be set independently so that the operator has maximum freedom in defining the job parameters. The PrintVision/Apollo-Labels installed as a part of the rewinder (OEM installation) takes into account the limited space in a pressroom. A single monitor is used and the operator can toggle easily from "master" image to running job to the most recent fault, thereby obtaining a comprehensive picture of what is happening to the job. The PrintVision/Apollo-Labels is specifically configured to meet the requirements of the label sector in terms of both the size of the system and the repeat length. "The wide range of AVT’s solutions for the label printing industry consolidate AVT’s position in automatic inspection and quality assurance," says Lance Shumaker, President of AVT Inc. "The solutions on display at Labelexpo Americas offer profit building while ensuring quality and cutting waste in the highly competitive and demanding labels sector. "The speed and efficiency of these solutions can make short-run jobs profitable, while increasing margins on longer run work," Shumaker concludes. About AVT Advanced Vision Technology develops and manufactures automatic inspection systems for web applications in the packaging, labels, forms and converting sectors. Its flagship solution is the PrintVision/Pro. PrintVision’s core technology is used in on- and off-press inspection. Specialist solutions for 100% inspection, remote alarms, automatic bar code verification, cold seal inspection, job archiving and statistical process control are easily integrated into all PrintVision platforms. There are more than 400 PrintVision systems installed worldwide. In June 2002, AVT acquired Geiger Vision Systems of Munich, Germany, and has incorporated its product range and personnel into the AVT organization. Advanced Vision Technology headquarters and sole manufacturing facility are located in Hod-Hasharon, Israel. The company is listed on the Frankfurt Neuer Markt.
