Two Sides Member Spotlight: A Teacher’s Lesson Plan by Young Minds Inspired

Press release from the issuing company

Our new Member Spotlight series will focus attention on how a Two Sides member organization is benefiting from our materials and information. Today we feature the Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB) and their work with schools to provide a grade 4 to 6 teacher’s lesson plan through Young Minds Inspired.

The plan explains why paper is one of the most recycled resources on the planet, and how recycling paper and cardboard products helps protect the environment, with standards-aligned activities designed to build critical thinking, research, and math skills.

The program is designed to reach 35,000 teachers and 1.5 million students. In addition, the online resources are free, and available in English and Spanish to all.

The P+PB promotes the use of paper products and paper-based packaging by highlighting the value they bring to our daily lives. They have done this through a national advertising campaign Paper & Packaging – How Life Unfolds® which shows how paper and packaging enhance business and personal productivity, creativity, and learning. You’ve probably seen their ads featuring Casey and Page (see image above). Two Sides North America has partnered with the P+PB to provide materials that support the forestry, recycling, and environmental story of paper and packaging.

In this latest campaign, the P+PB focused on recycling and built a standards-based curriculum around America Recycles Day (November 15, 2018, #BeRecycled). Activities, information, and awareness highlight the content designed for elementary and middle school-aged children. The objective is to provide educators with materials and facts about paper recycling. Activities like Sustainability Smarts, The Life Cycle of Paper, Recycling Race, Trash Tracker, and the Two Sides Infographic on How Paper is Made are all part of this comprehensive lesson plan. The Young Minds Inspired curriculum page also features links to several websites including Two Sides North America to help provide additional supporting data to teachers for use in their lesson plans.

By partnering with member organizations like the P+PB, Two Sides is working toward the common goal of educating consumers about the sustainable features of print and paper. The North American Graphic Communications Industry, led by forestry, pulp and paper production, printing, converting and suppliers to these sectors, aspires to ensure that print and paper’s unique recyclable and renewable qualities can be enjoyed for generations to come. Two Sides is further committed to ensuring that print and paper remains a versatile, effective and powerful means of communication, stretching the imagination and imparting knowledge.

Two Sides provides members with a wealth of fact-based tools and information that companies can use to support their own environmental story. Materials include:

  • Many popular Infographics that outline the benefits of print and paper for learning, sustainability, security, and enjoyability.
  • A Myths and Facts booklet that focuses on key sustainability facts related to print and paper.
  • Comprehensive Fact Sheets that cover several hot topics ranging from the environmental impact of electronic communication to the sustainability of paper-based printed products, as well as tackling the vital role that print and paper play in literacy and learning.
  • Monthly blogs, videos, and social media posts with shareable content to help promote print and sustainability to a broader audience.
