Newest Xerox Digital Color Press Helps Print Shops Bolster Efficiency, Profit

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--July 1, 2002--Xerox Corporation is expanding the power of its market-leading DocuColor line with a new digital press that can run complex, highly profitable print jobs around the clock. The Xerox DocuColor 6060 Digital Color Press is engineered to help commercial printers, in-plant printers and quick-print professionals boost revenue by producing customized brochures, one-to-one documents and other print jobs on a wide variety of paper stocks with outstanding image quality. "The DocuColor line is about choice and flexibility - and this digital press delivers both," said Gerhard F. Moll, senior vice president, Xerox Color Solutions Business Unit. "With the DocuColor 6060, our customers can say ``yes' to a wider range of jobs, greater volume and increased profitability." The DocuColor 6060 complements the successful DocuColor 2000 Series of digital color presses; Xerox has sold more than 5,000 units since its introduction two years ago. The DocuColor 6060 offers a more advanced set of features, productivity and capabilities that appeal to customers needing a "workhorse" digital press. The DocuColor 6060 is unlike most competitive machines where the rated speeds fall off dramatically when printing double-sided on the heavyweight stocks that many digital color jobs require. Printing speeds on these substrates are increased as much as 50 percent over previous Xerox models, and the speeds are as much as 300 percent faster than competitive models. The press is one of only a few that can print on such a wide array of paper and substrates, such as 45-lb. offset text to as high as 110-lb. cover stock. The enhanced range of paper and substrates can be loaded in any of the four "all purpose" trays (two standard, two optional). This lets commercial printers use as many as four different stocks automatically in a single job or load an unprecedented 8,000 sheets. Advanced paper capacity, combined with the ability to load toner and paper as it runs, enables virtually non-stop printing. The digital press has a choice of three powerful front ends -- workstations that process print files and drive the machine: the EFI EXP6000, Creo CXP6000 and Xerox DocuSP 6000XC. These ensure customers can easily integrate the digital presses into their existing workflow, protect past investments and don't have to retrain staff. DocuSP, the Xerox common controller, now supports 23 production-printing engines, including DocuTech, DocuPrint and DocuColor models. The digital color press prints 60 full-color pages per minute or 3,600 images per hour and offers resolution of 600 x 600 pixels per inch with a full eight bits of color depth per pixel. It also delivers improved color consistency and front-to-back registration required by discriminating printers. The U.S. list price for the DocuColor 6060 Digital Color Press is $139,000 with a variety of service pricing alternatives available. U.S. list prices for front ends are: $53,000 for the EFI EXP6000; $55,000 for the Creo CXP6000; and $53,000 for the Xerox DocuSP 6000XC. The press is sold through the Xerox direct sales force, agents and concessionaires. Order taking begins July 15, and shipments in Europe and North America start in August.
