Xian Jun Long Launches Operation of China’s First Digital dmax Varnishing System with dfoil for Digital Foiling from Steinemann

Press release from the issuing company

After carefully evaluating everything the market has to offer, the premium packaging manufacturer decided in favour of innovative digital print enhancement technology for foil and varnish from Steinemann.

Xian Jun Long Color Printing Co. Ltd., member of Win Tai Woo Holdings Group, headquartered in Hong Kong, will soon be launching operation of the first digital dmax varnishing system for B1 sheet sizes from Steinemann, including a digital dfoil UV foiling module. Representatives of the manufacturer, which produces premium packaging for wines, cosmetics, tobacco products and other consumer goods, attended successful acceptance testing of the system at the Steinemann factory in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Xian Jun Long had initially evaluated printing systems on the market from other manufacturers, but in the end chose dmax and dfoil digital foiling technology from Steinemann. With the new machine in operation at its facility in Shenzhen, the company aims to raise the bar in print enhancement in China by achieving production speeds of up to 5,000 sheets per hour. In this context, the company collaborates successfully with You-Print Digital Technology Co., Ltd., which is an exclusive distributor of Steineman’s dmax and dfoil products in Greater China.

Various factors influenced the investment decision. One was the outstanding quality of print finishing results at thin layer thicknesses, made possible by the 600 dpi resolution of the dmax’s digital inkjet varnishing unit, which can render not only thick layers, but all also extremely fine lines and detail structures. Added to this was the flexibility of the system when it comes to print enhancement: Thanks to its decision to equip the system with a dfoil module, Xian Jun Long can now produce packaging with matt or gloss finishes and flat or raised foiling effects – with embossing as desired – all in a single pass without the use of printing formes. In addition, short makeready times, low varnish consumption, low waste and low maintenance translate into low machine operating costs. Steinemann's reputation in the market for engineering reliable, durable machines was yet another reason for Xian Jun Long to go for the dmax.

“We will be able to produce much more efficiently with this machine than with other print enhancement technologies available today, and ultimately strengthen our competitiveness,” says Tony So, Deputy General Manager of Xian Jun Long. “What is more, with this future-oriented investment decision, we take up a pioneering role in the Chinese market.”

Xian Jun Long, with its workforce of 1,500 employees, took 51st place in a 2017 ranking of the 100 biggest companies in the Chinese printing and packaging industry. With its print enhancement capabilities, the service provider has been setting standards in the Chinese premium market for 30 years as a specialist for high-end print jobs.

The dmax digital inkjet system for spot and relief varnishing is available in two versions: the dmax 106 for sheet sizes up to 1,080 x 780 mm and the dmax 76 for sheet sizes up to 760 x 760 mm, where the sheet length on the dmax 76 can be expanded to 1,080 mm as an option. Both machines can be equipped with a variety of options, including dfoil, a redundant inkjet system, a pinhole killer Xian Jun Long or optimizing varnish results.
