Standard Register Takes Museum from Paper to Plastic Membership Cards

Press release from the issuing company

(DAYTON, OHIO),ä The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco have selected Standard Register to print and produce 65,000 plastic membership card packages, which replace the organization's paper membership cards. Moving from paper to plastic cards allows the Museums to more effectively track and evaluate members' attendance. "By scanning the card's barcode each time a member visits the museum, we are able to create an electronic database that captures important information such as a person's attendance patterns and areas of interest," says Gina Tan, director of membership and annual fund for the Museums. "This data will help us with our programming and marketing efforts, making the cards an important part of our strategy for enrolling and retaining new members." Switching to plastic also increases the design quality of the membership card, which includes a four-color photo of the Legion of Honor, to better reflect the image of the Museums. Each time a person joins the museum, Standard Register prepares and distributes a membership card package, complete with two cards affixed to an 8.5-by-11-inch sheet of museum letterhead that serves as the carrier. The package includes a message from the Museums' director and a listing of current and upcoming events. To support the SMARTworks.com open platform, SMARTworks Version 5.0 has implemented a Transactional Data Model, which supports Enterprise Print Management for any supplier and provides customers with more accurate "real time" information, including: "Standard Register is pleased to serve as the outsourcing partner for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco's card program," says Dave Fehrman, general manager, Imaging Services, Standard Register. "Turning over responsibility for production and fulfillment of the card packages to Standard Register allows the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco to focus on their mission as a world-class museum."
