Banknote Corp Selects Roland R300 to Increase Production

Press release from the issuing company

When the largest high-security printer in the United States needed to purchase a new press, it chose the six-color Roland R300. Banknote Corporation of America (BCA) made the decision to purchase the press to increase its production flexibility in its highly competitive and constantly changing marketplace. "Traditionally, we have specialized in very large runs. But as runs have gotten shorter and more diverse, we wanted the flexibility to do a full range of both sheetfed and web," observes Raymond Goudreault, president and CEO of BCA. "With this press, we will be able to focus on developing the short-run securities printing market, from 5,000 to 100,000 sheets." The Roland R300 can print up to six colors on sheets up to 23 x 29 inches. It operates at speeds up to 15,000 sph in either straight or perfecting mode. Features include highly precise inking regulation, ink/water balance, automated plate changing and auto washing, reliable sheet guiding, and coating/perfecting station. Because many of BCA's jobs are high-line screen (its minimum contractual requirement with the U.S. Postal Service is 300-line screen), the quality of the Roland R300's printing was also a key factor in choosing the press. "We have produced some stamps as high as 650-line screen at this facility," says Goudreault. "High-line screen printing is a very difficult process and you need a press that can push the limits. We feel that the Roland is capable of doing that." MAN Roland is based in Germany and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of sheetfed and web presses, featuring a line of small and large volume products and a range of finishing systems and add-on components. The U.S. headquarters is located in the Chicago suburb of Westmont. MAN Roland is on the World Wide Web at http:www.manroland.com
