PaperExchange.com to Launch New e-Solutions for Suppliers and Buyers

Press release from the issuing company

BOSTON, MA, - PaperExchange.com, the global e-Marketplace and business solutions provider for the pulp and paper industry, today confirmed plans to expand beyond its original exchange model. While the company will continue to enhance and support the exchange, which has drawn industry endorsement and acclaim, PaperExchangeSM is introducing a range of new online order, contract and inventory management solutions to meet the more complex needs of its customers. The announcement coincides with the launch of the latest upgrade of the company's pulp and paper e-Marketplace-version 3.7. This upgrade includes a multi-language trading floor that places PaperExchange among the first business-to-business exchange sites to provide users with language translations throughout the entire transaction process, including bidding, posting and electronic notifications. Other upgrade features include additional currencies, expanded paper grades and sizes, additional pricing mechanism support and improved browsing capabilities. "We've learned a great deal from our customers' needs, and have developed new online solutions to help improve the way our members conduct business," explained Kent A. Dolby, president and CEO of PaperExchange. "Our objective is to utilize our technology and domain expertise to enhance performance for both buyers and sellers. This will result in transaction or supply chain savings and indirectly reduce technology expenditures." In November, PaperExchange will introduce StockMover, the first new tool to represent the company's evolution beyond an exchange model. StockMover manages suppliers' inventory that is not committed to a specific buyer. Customers will benefit by stabilizing intracompany supply and demand imbalances and identifying profitable methods to convert excess stock into prime product. A new contract management tool will also be introduced later in the year, providing three distinct components designed to create efficiencies by bringing buyers and sellers closer together. These include: 1) online negotiations via TargetRFQ‰, a tool that enables buyers to distribute quotation requests to preferred suppliers; 2) an online branded storefront that enables order entry and inquiry via a standardized toolkit and 3) the management of contracts and order settlement. This contract management tool will benefit members who deal in long-term relationships and the ongoing order processes that result. Version 3.7 of e-Marketplace Features Site Upgrade, Significant Enhancements In advance of the launch of these new online solutions, PaperExchange has announced version 3.7 of its e-Marketplace. Among many other site improvements, this latest version features multi-language and multi-currency trading floor capabilities for the European and Latin American markets. Suppliers and buyers can conduct all bidding activity and transactions -as well as receive e-mail confirmations of specific posting activities or opportunities on the site - in French, German, Spanish, Italian and European English. PaperExchange is among the first business-to-business exchange sites to provide customers such comprehensive translation capabilities. In addition, all major world currencies can now be used in customer transactions, enabling greater flexibility for international members. Other site enhancements include: Additional grades and sizes - 140 paper product grades and sizes, spanning packaging, printing & writing and recovered paper, have been added to enable much greater specificity for selling and ordering. Pricing mechanism support - adds new units of measure for quantity and price - including imperial and metric - to support traditional pricing mechanisms at different points in the supply chain. Enhanced browsing capabilities - enables members to define a highly customized and focused search for products on the PaperExchange trading floor. New capabilities include searching by brand, price and date available, in addition to existing product specification fields. Additional comment fields - facilitates the negotiation process by enabling more robust information exchanges between buyers and sellers. Online calculation - twelve new tools, including a total cost calculator, a roll waste calculator, a postage weight calculator and a paper requirement calculator, support the online paper purchasing process.
