New AdSpring From Donnelley Makes Ad Management Easy for Publishers

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, The Premedia Technologies unit of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company [NYSE:DNY] announces the launch of AdSpringÅ, a digital asset management system geared specifically to publishers to track and manage ad pages. With AdSpring, magazine design and production staffs can easily find current and archived advertising via their web browser for quick placement or pickup. Publishers access AdSpring using either a PC or Mac and standard Internet browsers, such as Netscape NavigatorÆ and Microsoft Internet ExplorerÆ. AdSpring is an integral part of R.R. Donnelley Premedia's broader advertising management solution that ensures color-accurate, consistent messaging for the advertiser and quick, efficient turnaround for the publisher. "Publishers are receiving ever-increasing numbers of digital advertising pages," states Mary Lee Schneider, president for Premedia Technologies. "To manage those digital ad files, as well as access information about those pages, they need a robust, cost-effective digital asset management solution. Through AdSpring, publishers can find ads and supporting information, target them for particular magazines or issues and distribute them over high speed connections to their printers via the web, 24/7." As an early adopter of AdSpring, World Publications, which manages about 12,000 ads annually sees additional benefits of the internet-based solution. "The required staffing, storage and retrieval systems of an in-house solution can tie up capital," notes Lisa Earlywine, director of production operations for World Publications. "Premedia's investment in the infrastructure and administration of AdSpring gives World the expertise without major capital expense for new systems, software and technical resources." By integrating with the publishers' systems, AdSpring enables full-service ad trafficking, including insertion order confirmation, tracking of ad materials and production monitoring. Ad information, such as publication date, advertiser, agency, page rates, etc., is collected from the publishers' system and stored with the ad in Adspring, providing an updated stream of metadata (data about data) that travels with the ad. "The power of AdSpring is only one component of a complete solution providing ad quality for the publisher, and a clear, consistent message for the advertiser," notes Schneider. "Color-accurate results in AdSpring begin the moment Premedia receives the ad." Getting the ad into AdSpring is easy, whether it's received on film or in a digital file. For ads on film, the pioneering efforts of R.R. Donnelley with companies such as Creo to optimize scanner technology (including co-development of the Renaissance scanner) ensures high quality scans resulting in color-correct files. Other services in Premedia's complete ad solution range from receiving and checking digital ad files through preflighting and proofing, to more advanced services including ad trafficking and administration involving direct interaction with advertising agencies and advertisers. Lastly, Premedia-developed workflow standards and methodologies make going "direct to press" seamless and efficient. The Premedia Technologies business unit of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company provides a complete solution for customers to create, prepare and manage content for both print and online distribution. Services include photography -- both conventional and digital -- asset management and prepress. Designed to link customers' creative process with today's technology, the services of Premedia Technologies are used by leading-edge companies in many markets, such as retail, catalog, magazine, advertising agency and corporate.
