Epson Launches Satellite R&D Operation in New York

Press release from the issuing company

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Oct. 19, 2000--Epson Research and Development Inc. will launch its third major R&D satellite office Friday. Epson's New York Design Center will focus on development of the next generation of integrated circuitry, including high-frequency analog and digital circuits, and other technologies. Officials from Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, the parent company of Epson Research and Development, said the expansion of its global research operations in the United States is a significant move and positive reflection on the resources available. SEC chose the mid-Hudson Valley area for this satellite operation because of its well-developed, talented work force for high-frequencys and variety of top schools. "North America is one of the most important regions to Epson from the R&D point of view, as well as a marketing perspective," said Hideaki Yasukawa, president of Seiko Epson Corporation. The 12,000 square foot facility, which is located at 169 Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., includes an electrical lab and computer space in addition to office space. The operation currently employs 6 engineers but plans to expand ultimately to 20 engineers in the near future. The Epson Group has 101 affiliated companies globally, including sales and marketing, manufacturing and R&D. Epson Research and Development is one of the Epson Group's five functional companies in the United States.
