NEW YORK, Bowne Business Solutions (BBS), the outsourcing unit of Bowne & Co., Inc. (NYSE:BNE), the world's largest financial printer and a leading provider of outsourcing services, digital print-on-demand solutions, and Internet development services, has appointed Despina Kartson to vice president of strategic solutions. This newly created position is designed to lead BBS' strategic initiatives within its outsourcing business. Kartson will be responsible for managing the service solutions teams, whose mission will be to develop the value proposition and new product plans for each of BBS' key service offerings. These include desktop publishing, legal word processing, information technology (IT) and office document management services. "As the legal and investment banking communities rely more on outsourcing for their IT and document management needs, it is important to continually become more innovative and develop best-of-class service models to meet customer needs," said Linda Finkel, chief operations officer, BBS. "Despina's strong leadership and experience with launching new outsourcing solutions and services for the legal marketplace will enhance Bowne's ability to provide clients, in this and other areas, with the consultation and expertise they are seeking." Dave Shea, executive vice president, BBS, added, "We are thrilled with the extensive experience and industry knowledge Despina brings to BBS and look forward to driving new service offerings to customers in the legal, financial, professional services and corporate markets we serve." Kartson brings more than 17 years of law firm and related experience to BBS. She most recently served as vice president of practice services/new product development for Uniscribe, where she directed the company's on-site digital document solutions business. Previously, she was assistant director of IT at Cravath, Swain & Moore and spent 12 years at White & Case LLP, serving as manager of computerized litigation support. Kartson is a noted author and speaker on legal technology issues. Her first book, Computerized Litigation Support, was published in 1994, and her second book, Designing Litigation Support Databases, was published in 1997. Kartson will be based in Bowne's New York corporate headquarters and report directly to Finkel and Shea.
