Press release from the issuing company

GX40’s Substrate Freedom Supports the Delivery of Innovative Packaging Solutions for SPC

Rolling Meadows, Ill. – Komori America—Spectrum Print Communications (SPC) recently purchased a new Komori six-color Lithrone GX40 equipped with coater (GLX640C) and LED UV and H-UV™ systems. Established in 1997 as a commercial sheet-fed printer, SPC has transformed its business into a creative folding carton manufacturer, now its fastest growing segment. The company services a variety of markets, from cosmetics to pharmaceutical and confectionery. The GLX640C was part of a capital expenditure plan that included significant upgrades to its technology, equipment and facility to meet the evolving needs of its customer base and long-term growth goals.

“In 2013, we decided that packaging was the area we wanted to focus on and grow our business. It involved hiring engineers and revisiting our workflow, but in just five years it represents 70 percent of our sales,” said Mark Mills, vice president of marketing for SPC. “Every day we hold true to our brand philosophy: ‘thINK Different.’ Our clients see it in our communication, our creativity and in their final product. This GLX640 press is helping us deliver on that philosophy. It is allowing us to expand what we can produce for our clients, from its ability to handle a wide variety of packaging substrates to the excellent color control and fast turnaround.”

The sophisticated automation of the GLX640 offers the advanced technology that fully supports package printing, with its six printing units, three curing stations, coater and extremely stable printing at the 18,000 sheets per hour maximum printing speed, even with heavy stock. It delivers both significantly improved print quality and enhanced agility for color changeovers. Additionally, its folding carton printed output is in keeping with SPC’s FSSC 22000 certification for strict quality assurance standards in food packaging production.

“Spectrum Print Communications has been part of the Komori family for many years and it is very exciting to have been a partner during their successful business transformation from a commercial print operation to an innovative package printer,” said Mark Milbourn, vice president of sales for Komori America. “We are confident the GLX640C will offers all the capabilities and more needed to continue to support their growth goals.”
